Baywatch Finds Its Female Lead, Why Is There A Memento Remake and WONDER WOMAN NEWS!!!

Hello and welcome TBA Movie Podcast, it’s a day late, but we have a lot of news to cover and two HUGE stories coming out of the DC Cinematic Universe, but we’ll get to that, first up all of the biggest news stories this week.

DISCLAIMER – If there’s any spelling or grammar mistakes I do deeply apologise as I suffer with minor dyslexia, but if I did make a mistake and like to give me a heads up by all means tweet me @Shaun_Wren.

Up first, last week I was talking about how Paramount had a shortlist of actresses to be the female lead in the Baywatch movie. It was announced on Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s Instagram that Alexandra Daddario (who started alongside Johnson in San Andreas) will be joining the former WWE wrestler and Zac Efron in the comedy.

This is great news because not only can her blue eyes and god given beauty make everyone fall in love with her, but she also a super talented actress and was one of the big reason why San Andreas was a good movie.

One of the biggest news stories coming out this week was there will be a remake of the near perfect Christopher Nolan film ‘Memento’. I’m going to stop myself from going on a rant about why this film doesn’t need to be remade.

This film is only 15 years old, so it’s in no need for a remake whatsoever and for those who haven’t seen this classic, which was one of the reasons why he got to direct the Batman films and became one of the most loved directors today, go to HMV and pick up the DVD it’ll be under a £10 and money well spent.

There’s the synopsis - Leonard (Guy Pearce) is tracking down the man who raped and murdered his wife. The difficulty, however, of locating his wife's killer is compounded by the fact that he suffers from a rare, untreatable form of memory loss. Although he can recall details of life before his accident, Leonard cannot remember what happened fifteen minutes ago, where he's going, or why.

Quick Round Up

  •  Shaun of the Dead director Edger Wright will be directing a Dreamworks animation about shadows.
  • Sir Kenneth Branagh will be doing double duty in the Fox’s new adaptation of Agatha Christie’s ‘Murder on the Orient Express’ as he’ll be starring as detective Hercule Poirot as well as directing.
  • There is yet another Star Wars: The Force Awakens TV spot and new info coming out soon with Empire Magazine’s new issue. DISNEY! LUCASFILM! STOP SHOWING NEW FOOTAGE OF STAR WARS!! JUST STOP IT! YOU ALREADY HAVE OUR MONEY!!

DC News

This week only two films have taken the spotlight with images and a press release for the upcoming ‘Wonder Woman’ film which dropped TODAY! (Saturday 21st November) and rumours about possible casting and directors for Justice League Dark, but we’ll get to that.

The biggest news story coming out of the DCCU has to be about Wonder Woman, which again only dropped TODAY! (Saturday 21st November), and we have some cast announcements from it.

Sadly, Nicole Kidman won’t be in the film and there’s no news about Eva Green or Sean Bean, but whom we do have are some super talented actors and actresses. Joining Gal ‘Wonder Woman’ Gadot and Chris Pine who’ll be playing Captain Steve Trevor are:

Robin Wright (“The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,” Netflix’s “House of Cards”), Danny Huston (“Clash of the Titans,” “X-Men Origins: Wolverine”), David Thewlis (the “Harry Potter” films, “The Theory of Everything”), Ewen Bremner (“Exodus: Gods and Kings,” “Snowpiercer”), Saïd Taghmaoui (“American Hustle”), Elena Anaya (“The Skin I Live In”) and Lucy Davis (“Shaun of the Dead”).

We don’t know whom there’ll be playing, but I’d like to think Wright will be Queen Hippolyta, Huston as villain Ares and maybe unknown Spanish actress Anaya is Circe the Sorceress.

Wonder Woman is directed by Patty Jenkins and she’ll have Zack Snyder there on hand to help as a producer and the man overseeing the whole DC Cinematic Universe.

The other huge DC news was the Justice League Dark, or Dark Universe depending on how Waner Bros want to market it, had been picking up pace this week as rumours about potential cast and directors and if these castings happen this film is going to off the fucking chain.

American website Heroic Hollywood reported WB be are looking at the likes of Colin Farrell as John Constantine, Ewan McGregor as Jason Blood/The Demon, Ron Perlman as Swamp Thing and Monica Bellucci for Madame Xanadu. While they want a comedic actor for Deadman and up and coming as the magical Zatanna.

Personally, I think someone like James Franco could be brilliant as Deadman and I’m not sure about Zatanna, but if it’s true Warner Bros wants to go for a black or Latina actress then it’s great we’re getting more diversity in the DCCU.

While JoBlo are reporting Warner Bros are also looking at the super talented Ben Mendelson to play villain Anton Arcane, this would be brilliant casting if it happens, but he wants to wait and see who they bring in to direct with Aharon Keshales and Navot Papushado (Big Bad Wovles) and Fede Alvarez (Evil Dead remake) being eyed.

Whatever happens this film will probably push over the 12A rating and personally a decent 15 rated magical/horror would be great for both DC and refreshing for the superhero genre, it just depends on how well Deadpool performs.
