Films To See In 2016 - Part Four

All week (minus Thursday, I was seeing Star Wars for the third time) I’ve been showcasing ‘Films To See In 2016’ with yesterday being a Deadpool special. For the final part I’ll be looking at a cinematic universe that is set to explode with two films released this year.

I’m talking about the DC Cinematic Universe!!

Technically, it’s called the Extended Universe, however, it’s a stupid name so from now on I’ll be referring it as the Cinematic Universe.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice – 25th March 2016
For the first time EVER Batman and Superman will be in the same film and fans, including myself, have been waiting for years with many waiting for up to 30 years to see these two iconic superheroes share the big screen.

Starring; Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Jesse Eisenberg, Jeremy Irons, Holly Hunter, Callan Mulvey, Tao Okamoto, Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane.

Fearing the actions of a god-like super hero left unchecked, Gotham City’s own formidable, forceful vigilante takes on Metropolis’s most revered, modern-day saviour, while the world wrestles with what sort of hero it really needs. And with Batman and Superman at war with one another, a new threat quickly arises, putting mankind in greater danger than it’s ever known before.

Why Should I See It?
Similar to Deadpool, the better question is why wouldn’t you want to see it? As previously stated this is the FIRST TIME EVER Batman and Superman will not only be sharing the big screen, but The Dark Knight and Man of Steel will be fighting.

If you’re still wondering why they’re fighting, it’s something which as been happening in the comic books for decades

However, this time around the events in 2013’s Man of Steel where on his first week on the superhero job, Clark Kent/Superman (Cavill) destroyed the city of Metropolis battling with General Zod (Michael Shannon) but saved the world.

Fast – forward a year or two and the human population is spilt on their views between god-like saviour or someone you can take over the world. With Batman (Affleck) believing he’s the biggest threat to mankind and needs to be destroyed.

The other exciting thing about this event film is we’ll be getting an older, battle harded Bruce Wayne/Batman in Affleck, which also never happened on the big screen before.

The only word to describe this film is epic, the jury is still out on if the film will be any good, with two titans of the comic book genre set to have one of the most anticipated fights to ever happen.

This won’t be just a film for boys, as Wonder Woman (Gadot) will make her FIRST EVER appearance on the big screen and is reportedly set to steal the show and will be the badass princess fans wanted to see and general audiences will be cheering.

Our villain is Lex Luthor (Eisenberg) just think of him as a Mark Zuckerberg mixed with a child brought up with money.

Directed by Zack Snyder, it set to be 2 hours 31 minutes, the rumoured running time, of epic comic book action with appearances from Aquaman (Jason Momoa) and a rumoured cameo of The Flash (Ezra Miller).

Suicide Squad – 5th August 2016

With the heroes off doing their battling in March, this summer is for the bad guys because it’s good to be bad.

Supervillains accept a secret government mission that will likely result in their deaths.

Why Should I See It?
With every other comic book movie focusing on the heroes, Suicide Squad is solely focused a group of villains sent off for a mission where the chances of surviving are silm to none, but if they succeed then they get a shorter prison sentence.

Directed by David Ayer (Fury) with an impressive assembled cast include Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie (Wolf of Wall Street) as Harley Quinn (the Joker’s girlfriend) and Oscar winner Jared Leto as The Joker.

Judging by the trailer we’ll be getting a raw, dark, gritty film and by what I know it’ll also be funny and hearing from people who have already seen the new trailer, which is set to be online on 19th January, it will have the same dark tone but the comedy will organically come through.

It's an embarrassment of riches for film fans this year, epecially for the superhero genre, which makes 2016 one of the most anticpated years in recent history. So whatever the genre, TBA Movie Podcast will be keeping across it and you can follow me on Twitter @Shaun_Wren to keep up to date with all the latest news in the movie world.
