Well, that was quick.
After pleasing critics and fans alike, current West End play – written by JK Rowling – Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is set to be heading to the big screen.
According to the New York Daily News, Warner Bros wants potential film adaptation of Cursed Child to hit screens as soon as 2020 and it’s said WB producers want Daniel Radcliffe to return to the role as Harry.
Sources close to NYDN said, “Warners is secretly working on getting the movie rights and a screenplay settled, and of course in their minds only one man should be Harry.”
However, this news seems to be against an official statement released by Warner Bros a few weeks ago stating “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is a stage play, with no plans for there to be a film.”
Cursed Child picks up 19 years after Deadly Hallows and here’s a synopsis from the official website: "It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn’t much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband and father of three school-age children.
While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places."

If this rumour is true (I’d take it with a handful of salt) I wouldn’t be surprised because the Potter franchise is a money maker for Warner Bros. In the meantime we’ll be returning to the wizarding world with Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, coming out this November, and if this becomes a success then we’ll be seeing a trilogy.
