Every major film studio is looking to find or make the next big franchise with multiple movie sequels, so it’s no surprise Sony are about to start getting ideas for spin-offs for one of their most financially and critically successful comedies – 21 Jump Street.
Before the first movie was released critics and bloggers weren’t taking it seriously and granted the plot sounded dreadful (an updated version of the 80s TV show about young-looking cops going undercover at a high school to stop a drug ring), but in fact, it was one of the best comedies made for a while.
Then 22 Jump Street came out and did something which is severely rare, a comedy sequel that’s better than the original film.

According to Deadline, Sony is putting a new spin-off into motion centring on two female cops going undercover. It’s already being scripted by Rodney Rothman – friend of producer and star Johan Hill – whose written scripts such as Get Him to the Greek, Grudge Match and 22 Jump Street.
Rothman is also set to be on board as a director and even though he’s worked and won awards for writing and producing several films, this would be his debut as a director.
I’m sure many people would wonder why there isn’t a female director attached to the project given the gender imbalance in Hollywood and I would agree to some point. However, having Rothman on board seems like the smart move because he’s already submerged in this world.
Writing 22 Jump Street and probably helped Hill on the first film and he has written a draft for the rumoured MIB/Jump Street crossover.
No word has come out about casting or if Dakota Johnson and Rye Rye (who were a part of the original films Jump Street initiative) would return.

To me, these roles would be ideal for a semi-known actress to come on board because if you look at Channing Tatum, the reason he’s such a huge star now is because of the success and his acting in the Jump Street films, and I think some actresses would love to have the same pop.
