Hours after the news broke Matt Reeves will direct The Batman, Chris McKay will be directing a live-action Nightwing movie!
The Hollywood Reporter reveals McKay, who is best known as the director of The LEGO Batman Movie, is in talks to helm the film based on Dick Grayson fighting crime in Bludhaven and this will be the first time ever we see Nightwing in any form of live action.
Meanwhile, The Accountant screenwriter Bill Dubuque will be writing the script.
To give quick backstory, you probably know Grayson as the original Robin and the best-known member of the Bat-family. He was created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger and was introduced in the 1940s and became Robin after his parents were murdered, throughout the decades and by the 80s is was too old to be Bruce Wayne’s sidekick and decided to break out on his own and became Nightwing.
Grayson stayed true to what he learnt as Robin and shares the same motivations and methods as Batman, but doesn’t want to become as dark, lonely and control as Bruce.

I’m (like plenty of DC and general film films) excited to see Nightwing finally on the big screen and I’m so utterly happy McKay is the man directing this because it’s perfect and if you’ve seen LEGO Batman you’ll know why.
I think this is perfect for him. Yes, it’ll be a big DCU tentpole film. However, the large majority of audiences have never heard of Nightwing and you can make him stand out different from Batman and create this character and also bring Bludhaven to live-action.
Basically, if you thought Gotham was bad wait until you see Bludhaven with corrupt cops and a city in ruin.

Elsewhere, bring the writer for The Accountant and McKay together will see an awesome, action superhero film with humour and lots of fun.
Finally, I would expect Ben Affleck’s Batman to cameo near the end of the film to tie in his solo film. Which if they were smart to release it after Nightwing.
