EXCLUSIVE! The LEGO Movie 2 Will Be A Musical

Last week I was very lucky to sit down and talk to The LEGO Batman Movie director Chris McKay. We talked about the film’s Easter eggs, what did and didn’t make the final cut #Nighthawks and some much more.

The one thing he did exclusively reveal to me was the LEGO Movie 2 will be a musical, action movie with a sibling rivalry between a big brother and little sister.

“In LEGO 2, Mike Mitchell has just got hired to direct. It’s going to be a huge, ambitious musical action movie.

“The music team here is putting amazing stuff together; it’s going to be this incredible obstinance.  If you take what is sort of felt like the throw from the end of the first film, you sort of imagine the two of those, if we imagine now is three years later and if you know anything about sibling rivalries and you know there’s going to be some sparks that are going to fly as far as their different points of view.

“Batman’s going to be a part of it and he’s going to take some of the lessons he’s learnt from this movie [LEGO Batman] into that movie [LEGO Movie 2] in a fun way.”

McKay went on to praise Lord and Miller’s script and after leaving the director’s chair to helm LEGO Batman and he’s now sort of the Kevin Feige of LEGO.

“Chris [Miller] and Phil [Lord] wrote the script which is a great, great script and I’m a producer on all these movies now and I loved when I was working on it [LEGO Movie 2] for a second so I’m hoping to help out with it.”

After showing off his skills, Batman will still be the best, kickass guitarist in LEGO Movie 2.

“Since there’s going to be a lot of music in it, I think it’s safe to say there’s going to be a lot of songs in it, a lot of musical numbers in it, it’s safe to say Batman and his guitar will return.”
