After recently talking about Justice League Dark, Doug Liman has left the project due to scheduling conflict.
According to Variety, Liman while being attached to Dark Universe aka Justice League Dark he was also attached to direct Lionsgate’s Chaos Walking.
Chaos Walking is based on a trilogy of science fiction books written by Patrick Ness.
This isn’t the first time Liman as stepped down from a comic book movie property after leaving 20th Century Fox’s Gambit saying he “just wasn’t feeling” the script.
Obviously, this isn’t ideal for Warner Bros, but Variety did add “the studio has already started meeting with other directors and should have a replacement for Liman lined up shortly.”

However, I don’t think this is the end of the world, Michael Gilio is still penning the script and the film has to be in early pre-production. Furthermore, people don’t seem to be too upset about the news as they think (while Liman is a great director and ideal for other DC characters) someone else would be a better fit.
Plot details haven’t been revealed, but Dark Universe (not the new Universal monsters franchise) is centred on the dark Justice League team and consists of John Constantine, Zatanna, Deadman, Swamp Thing and Etrigan the Demon.

The film is seen as a major part of the new DC Extended Universe.
Guillermo del Toro was attached to this film for a number of years, but the project was shelved as he was focusing on other projects.
Personally, I would’ve like to seen Liman’s take on the characters and the world embedding horror and action. I still think Warner Bros want this film to have a horror/action vibe to it.
It’ll be interesting to see who helms and getting a horror based director could be a smart move and The Hollywood Reporter is stating IT director Andy Muschietti could be one of the names the studio is looking at.
Another name I can think of is Adam Wingard, but even though The Guest was well received, Blair Witch was flat out panned. So the Death Note Netflix series might get people interested.
Meanwhile, Jennifer Kent could be a name to look out for after impressing critics and horror fans with 2014’s The Babadook, she was one of the contenders for the Captain Marvel directing chair.
She’s currently filming her second feature film called The Nightingale and nothing afterwards so I won’t be surprised to see her name pop up.
