We’re coming to the close of the Summer movie season and entering Autumn (Fall if you’re Stateside), which means we’re under 100 days until Thor: Ragnarok and Justice League and just four months until Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

As part of their Fall (Autumn) 2017 preview, Entertainment Weekly released a number of stories and images about Episode VIII including the introduction of Porgs, our favourite new creature.

LOOK AT HOW F*CKING ADORABLE IT IS!!

The Last Jedi will mainly focus on Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) and sometimes meeting your heroes could be your worst nightmare and it could be the case in this film.

We already know Luke isn’t in the best place believing “it’s time for the Jedi to end.”

Hamill told EW, “The fact Luke says, ‘I only know one truth. It’s time for the Jedi to end…’ I mean, that’s a pretty amazing statement for someone who was the symbol of hope and optimism in the original film.

“When I first read it, my jaw dropped, what would make someone that alienated from his original convictions? That’s not something that you can just make up in an afternoon, and I really struggled with this thing” he added.

After trying to bring in a new generation of Jedi to just see it being sloughed by Kylo Ren, Luke went into exile by moving to the remote planet Ahch-To and be with the Jedi temple.

In Episode VIII we’ll learn he demanded to be left alone and is pretty pissed off Rey has come for him and she won’t welcome with open arms.

“I don’t think one girl, who he doesn’t know, turning up with a lightsaber is gonna make him go, ‘Oh, shit, yeah, of course I’ll get back into the action’,” stated Ridley.

Being the mega tease Hamill added, “But does he not know her?”

I, for one, don’t think Luke does know who the hell Rey is and previous I was leaning towards she being a Kenobi, but now I’m thinking she’s no one and her surname will be the line of the next trilogy.

Now, we’re learnt Luke isn’t living by himself on Ahch-To as he’s joined by The Caretakers, fish-bird-type alien race of nuns and have been on the island for thousands of years and “essentially keep up the structures on the island”, director Rian Johnson told EW.

The Caretakers (animated with a person inside the costume) “tolerate” Luke being on Ahch-To.

Johnson explains “You get a sense they did at some point or maybe occasionally do [return to sea] but when we see them, they’re land creatures. They’re these big matronly creatures, but they have these skinny little bird feet.”

Finally, The Caretakers aren’t the only creatures that live on the island as Luke is also joined by one of the cutest creatures ever made (sorry, but suck it Ewoks) and they’re called Porgs.

They’re penguin-like creatures and native to the planet and you can get another look at them on board the Millennium Falcon (with Chewie as the head pilot) below.

As for his inspiration, Johnson revealed “If you go to Skellig at the right time of year, it’s covered in Puffins, and they’re the most adorable thing the world.

“So when I was first scouting there, I saw these guys, and I was like, ‘Oh, these are part of the island’. And so the porgs are in the realm.”

Well looks like I’ll be poorer now thanks to these adorable bastards, thanks Rian Johnson!

Star Wars: The Last Jedi will be released in the UK on December 14 and in US theatres on December 15.
