The biggest name on the lips of every Newcastle Falcons fans is the return of former England star Toby Flood after 12 years away playing at Leicester Tigers (nine years) and Toulouse (three years).

He’ll be joined by French International Maxime Mermoz, after a short spell at Leicester, and the flying Canadian winger DTH van der Merwe.

OUTS – Mike Delany (Bay of Plenty), Archie Erskine (Edinburgh Rugby), Andrew Foster (Rotherham Titans), Ben Harris (Wasps), Marcus Watson (Wasps), Fred Burdon, Joshua Chisanga (released), Mouritz Botha, Tom Catterick, Sam Egerton (all retired).

Verdict

Newcastle continuing to be the team to watch to the point they could be dark horses for the top four. 

They already had a team that battled for Champions Cup last season and with players like Flood, Mermoz and Merwe the only way is up and will clinch the Champions Cup play-off spot.

They’ll be in for a battle with both Northampton and Sale for that place.
