Top 30 Most Anticipated Films Of 2018 Part 3

Welcome to Part 3 and this is the part where we’re looking forward to The Shaun Wren Blog's top 10 most anticipated films of 2018 and similar to Part’s 1 & 2 it’ll include the UK release dates.

10. Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse – Sony Pictures (Friday 14th December)

This animated film shot into the top 10 thanks to that unbelievable teaser trailer with the jaw-dropping design and the fact it’s nice to see something different within this genre with a different Spider-Man focusing on Miles Morales this time. This might be the beginning of a new trend of have big budget animated superhero movies coming to the big screen.

9. Avengers: Infinity War – Disney (Friday 27th April)

Similar to number 10, Avengers got into my top 10 thanks to that impressive trailer and the final shot with Cap and co. There are still things I worry about like Thanos being an ultimate letdown and having so many years building up it couldn’t reach the hype.

However, I’m looking forward to seeing how many characters die and I loved the Russo Brothers work on Captain America: Winter Solider so hopefully it’ll be more like that in tone then Civil War, which was disappointing.

8. Mission: Impossible 6 – Paramount (Friday 27th July)

This film has so much unneeded pressure thanks to Paramount being dicks and not letting Henry Cavill shave his moustache for the Justice League reshoots. On the other hand, Rogue Nation was such a brilliant film and massive success it’s amazing how every film in the Mission: Impossible franchise gets better and better.

With the return of Christopher McQuarrie – who wrote and directed Rogue Nation – overseeing this sixth instalment, it’s exciting to see where Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt and the series goes.

7. The Incredibles 2 – Disney (Friday 13th July)

FINALLY, WE’VE GOT A SEQUEL TO THE INCREDIBLES!!! It only took 14 years, but Brad Bird is back (after directing Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol and Tomorrowland) to direct the follow-up to the best Fantastic Four movie to date. The Incredibles is one of the best-animated movies and could be argued the best Pixar movie ever.

The sequel picks up right after the original but with a new villain in town. It looks like Jack Jack will be an important character and if Disney/Pixar is able to deliver on what made the original film special and more then we could have a very special movie on our hands.

6. Venom – Sony Pictures (Friday 5th October)

Venom has everything going for it. The cast is stupidly amazing with Tom Hardy, Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed, Jenny Slate and reportedly Woody Harrelson! Then add the fact we can have our second horror (maybe first R-rated horror) in the superhero genre in a year is exciting and I don’t even like horror films!

For a while, I was confused how it’ll connect to Spider-Man and be possibly the MCU. Now, I’ve stopped caring because the excitement has overtaken. I can’t wait to see the first image or possibly 10-second video of Hardy’s Eddie Brock transforming into Venom.

5. The New Mutants – 20th Century Fox (Wednesday 11th April)

We’re in the top 5 now and kicking us off is the first horror superhero film to get released this year as Fox continues to experiment with their X-Men films after the success Deadpool and Logan pushing these Marvel films into the adult corners.

Director Josh Boone wanted to make a scary movie and by the trailer and Instagram videos the cast, led by the wonderful Anya Taylor-Joy, are posting it looks like he’s successfully succeeding and I’m engrossed by the idea of using practical effects and the mutant powers to generate shock.

Furthermore, with the film coming out just before the summer blockbuster boom it could get a great word of mouth.

4. Deadpool 2 – 20th Century Fox (Friday 1st June)

Hopefully, that word of mouth will be to the benefit of Deadpool 2, though I think the mega-success for the first film will be enough to help it be a summer smash hit.

The wet-on-wet trailer was a much welcome return from Ryan Reynolds’ Merc with the Mouth and we can all enjoy the upcoming marketing as I’m sure we’ll see something about the Disney/Fox deal.

3. Aquaman – Warner Bros (Friday 21st December)

The final superhero film to cap off a massive year for the genre is Aquaman and 2018 is an equally massive year for Warner Bros and the DCEU.

This film has a lot of good willing going for it with Jason Momoa winning audiences over in Justice League (even though there’s plenty of footage cut from the film) and his onscreen presence then if you add the calibre of James Wan as director we could be seeing a Wonder Woman size success, or at least hoping.

2. Early Man – Studiocanal (Friday 26th January)

In a year where we’re getting sequels to Wreck-It Ralph and The Incredibles, the fact this film is the highest rated animated film shows how much excitement I have for Nick Cave’s directorial return, Early Man.

Aardman have never made a bad film and Early Man looks to continue that great run with a bunch of new characters with a bunch of cavemen and cavewomen taking on a new age, football, fighting and the trailers have made me laugh.

1. Black Panther – Disney (Friday 16th February)

This is it; Black Panther is my most anticipated film of 2018. The idea of Ryan Coolger controlling Black Panther has me more excited than anything. Plus the fact Chadwick Boseman’s T’Challa was the only character I liked leaving the disappointing Captain America: Civil War.

With backstory sorted, we can focus on this possibly being a comic book movie to remember.  Even though I’m hoping Aquaman could do a Wonder Woman, I don’t have that issue with Black Panther because I know it will and it’ll probably get to the billion-dollar club.

Finally, this has one of the great assembled casts in comic book movie history and in Michael B. Jordan I’m incredibly hoping we have a great villain in the MCU.
