Directed By – Adam McKay
Starring – Christian Bale, Amy Adams, Steve Carell, Sam Rockwell, Tyler Perry, Bill Pullman, Eddie Marsan.
For a long time and even now, Dick Cheney has been the man in the shadows of Washington and US politics involved in some of the most important moments in US history pre-Barack Obama including being a massive component of the war on Iraq.
In Vice, we see Adam McKay showcase Cheney (Bale) as not only politics greatest puppet masters but also the humble beginnings from rural Wyoming as an electrical worker to becoming the de facto President of the United States of America.

I’m going to say off the bat I didn’t like this movie. It seems to me McKay was turning too much to being a smart arse and there was a lot of times the film felt jarring whenever it did quick cuts to real news footage.
Obviously, this was coming from a very Liberal look but that’s not my issue because it does highlight how evil this man was when it comes to the politics and I know this is a bad thing to say but there were moments I kinda respected him.
There’s also a great quote near the beginning that I think people should use about being the quiet man.
My issues with the film do not extend to the cast, who were utterly incredible.
Bale once again shows why he’s one of the greatest actors in modern history as he loses himself in the role similar to his Dark Knight Trilogy co-star Gary Oldman did last year with Winston Churchill in Darkest Hours.

Vice also has one of the best performances I’ve seen from Adams as Dick’s loyal wife Lynne, who also loses herself in the role and could be seen as some sort of kingmaker as she’s a lot more calculating than he is.

The final performance that was impressive and should’ve got the Best Supporting Actor buzz more than Sam Rockwell’s impression of George W. Bush is Steve Carell as Donald Rumsfeld.
As someone who is a lot worst then Cheney and it didn’t help that I was watching the US Office before the screening but he stole a lot of scenes.
Verdict
Incredible acting in a bad movie that was trying to be too smart for its own good.
