Spider-Man Spin-off Venom Movie Coming Out October 2018

After the news Aquaman has moved release dates from October 5 to December 21, 2018, it was announced (via ERC Box Office) Sony will be releasing a Spider-Man spin-off Venom film on the vacate October date.

Reasons for this film to even happen are still unknown  (most likely money) as this film based on the famous Spidey villain have no connection to Spider-Man, who’s now a part of the MCU.

The spin-off will be directed by The Mummy reboot helmer Alex Kurtzman and it also has a script!

The Hollywood Reporter revealed Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinker, the latter worked on The Amazing Spider-Man 2 with Kurtzman, has recently turned in a draft of the script based off Dante Harper’s original draft.

Venom is one of the most iconic villains in the superhero genre and easily the top Marvel villain as been a part the Spider-Man comics since 1988. The character is an alien symbiote that needs an human host to survive and in return, the victim gains incredible powers (so it’s not all bad).

The main reason people are scratching their heads is because of the character's connection to Spider-Man as it was Peter Parker who brought the symbiote to earth in the first place!

Besides Spider-Man, the most famous comic-book character who was the human host is Eddie Brock and the popularity with Venom began and stays with him, but because Brock was a straight up villain I doubt he’ll be the lead of the spin-off film.

The most likely version of the character we’ll see is Flash Thompson’s Agent Venom and he’ll be an anti-hero. Basically, Thompson becomes Agent Venom for black ops missions for the government and is only allowed to wear the suit for 48 hours, or he risks permanently bonding with the symbiote.

I still don’t know how this film will end up because at the moment it hurts Sony (what are the studio's plans), Spider-Man (losing its most iconic villain) and the MCU (loses a great villain).
