Supergirl Is On Her Way To The DCU & This Oscar Nominated Actress Is The Perfect Casting

IMAGE VIA DC COMICS

It looks like another member of the House of El is coming into the DC Universe as Warner Bros are looking to develop a Supergirl.

According to Deadline, 22 Jump Street screenwriter Oren Uziel is working on the script and no producers are attached at this point hopefully Marc Andreyko, who is currently the writer on the Rebirth comic, is involved helping behind the scenes.

Obviously, with no producers, there are no rumours for possible directors but with Patty Jenkins at the helm of Wonder Woman 1984 following the mega success of last year’s Wonder Woman and Cathy Yan on board to direct Birds of Prey starring Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn. WB will be on the lookout for a female director.

Supergirl is currently a successful TV as part of the wider Arrowverse with Melissa Benoist wonderfully playing Kara Zar-El/ Kara Danvers in the series now entering its fourth season.

The DC mythology of the character sets a teenage Kara escaping her dying home planet of Krypton and rocketed to earth where she basically the new girl at school, with her cousin already flying around saving the day, Kara struggles to find an identity.

Supergirl as all the abilities of the Man of Steel and with her cousin as a mentor to learn her abilities and self-control with the real possibility she could be more powerful than Superman.

Similar to Henry Cavill in 2013’s Man of Steel, this new Supergirl film could easily fit the upcoming-of-age genre and could lean itself even more so especially as the character is a teenager. Plus any excuse of us to return to Zack Snyder’s vision of Krypton the better.

MAN OF STEEL CONCEPT ART

Speaking of Cavill this would seem the supporting role to help lead towards a Man of Steel 2 or this could be a passing of the torch movie where Kara becomes Krypton’s and the World’s leading protector.

Which leads me to villain as it could be the perfect opportunity to bring Brainiac into the DCU as he could see with Earth being protected by metahumans and two Kryptonians as the perfect prize to collect.

As for casting, she has been my number one choice since 2015’s delightful movie Brooklyn and that’s Saoirse Ronan.

She’s the perfect choice, as three Oscar nominations, has done action in Hanna and has shown multiple times she can play a teenage lead in an upcoming of age with Brooklyn and Lady Bird. Additionally, she isn’t busy as Little Women is the only film she’s currently set to star.
