Films To See In 2016 - Part Three

Yesterday I brought you Part Two of ‘Films To See In 2016’ focusing on the Marvel Cinematic Universe and today Part Three will be looking into three different genre films.

Zootropolis – 25th March 2016
The modern mammal metropolis of Zootropolis is a city like no other. Comprised of habitat neighbourhoods like ritzy Sahara Square and frigid Tundratown, it’s a melting pot where animals from every environment live together—a place where no matter what you are, from the biggest elephant to the smallest shrew, you can be anything. But when rookie Officer Judy Hopps (voice of Ginnifer Goodwin) arrives, she discovers that being the first bunny on a police force of big, tough animals isn’t so easy. Determined to prove herself, she jumps at the opportunity to crack a case, even if it means partnering with a fast-talking, scam-artist fox, Nick Wilde (voice of Jason Bateman), to solve the mystery.

Why Should I See It?

Zootropolis is a brand new animation from the magical Walt Disney Animation Studios which brought us modern day classics such as Big Hero 6, Wreck-It Ralph and Frozen. Also, I think the premise (plot) of this film is a really good idea and it'll be a film for the whole family as kids will love seeing animals living like humans, and being a Disney animation there’ll be plenty of jokes for the adults too.

The cast has some great talent with the likes of Idris Elba, Jason Bateman, Oscar winner JK Simmons to name just a few and there’s even a role for Shakira.

Triple Nine – 19th February 2016

This film is defiantly not for kids! Triple Nine is a thriller and it tells the story of a group of thieves who plan to murder a cop in order to draw attention away from a heist they’ve planned on the other side of town. Directed by John Hillcoat (Lawless) with the script written by Matt Cook.

Why Should I See It?

Even though the premise is brilliant, it won’t be the reason you’ll see this dark, grim crime thriller. Hillcoat has put together one of the best assembled casts, which isn’t a superhero film, it stars Oscar nominees Kate Winslet, Casey Affleck, Woody Harrison & Chiewetel Ejiofor as well as Gal Gadot, Anthony Mackie and Aaron Paul.

With a cast this impressive, it’s hard not to get excited and the red band trailer really showcases the brilliance this film could be.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story – 16th December 2016
Taking place before the events of Star Wars: A New Hope, Rogue One is a completely different story from the world of Star War and it has nothing to do with The Force Awakens or the previous six Star Wars episodes.

It’s a one off stand-alone story about a group of rebels set off to steal the plans to the dreaded Death Star.

Why Should I See It?

If you’re a fan of Star Wars it’s always been a story that needs to be told as it’s only mentioned in the opening crawl of A New Hope, but there's always been questions around it mainly, how did they steal the plans?

However, for the casual fans, this should be a film to check out because it’ll focus on one element not really shown or used as much and that’s the war part in Star Wars, they show space battles, but never the ground war between the rebels and the empire.

Getting someone like Gareth Edwards (Godzilla, Monsters) to direct is a smart move as he’ll bring character depth to the main group and bring us a beautiful looking film. The cast is also impressive has it stars Felicity Jones, Ben Mendelson, Mads Mikkelsen, Forest Whitaker, Donnie Yen, Alan Tudyk, Riz Ahmed, Diego Luna and Jiang Wen.

There’s also rumours the film will feature a certain Darth Vader.

Just think of it as Saving Private Ryan meets Star Wars.
