Before we carry on I should say I didn't see the first Ride Along but if it was anything like the sequel, I didn't miss much as it follows the bad comedy sequel formula.
It’s surprising this film got a sequel in the first place as it was universally panned by critics, but it amazingly found an audience and Kevin Hurt has gone on to become one of the top comedy actors in Hollywood today. Even in the screening, I attended, the audience loved it.
So why didn’t I find this remotely funny?

Now it’s not to say I didn’t chuckle at a few moments, but for the most part, it was predictable, poorly written and similar to any other buddy-cop comedy.
It's a shame because Hart is incredibly funny as a stand-up and on The Real Husband of Hollywood, but his personality doesn’t seem to have translated to the big screen. There is some hope of him in the form of Central Intelligence starring alongside Dwayne Johnson.
I'm also getting bored of Ice Cube's grumpy cop gimmick and again, it’s a shame because it fits really well in 21 and 22 Jump Street. However, this is his FOURTH comedy where he’s playing the same role and it’s just a tired formula now.
Both these actors have a lot of promise they’re just let down by a bad script.

The fact it beat The Revenant and Star Wars to be at the top of the box office in America baffles me and by the reaction of the audience in the screening it'll be the number one film in the UK and then Ride Along 3 will be on its way.
Verdict
Predictable, unfunny and a waste of two talented performers.
