There aren’t many films you can say stayed with you forever, however Room is one of the greatest films ever made and is going to be a classic for years to come. It comes down to two world class performances by Jacob Tremblay, who was seven during shooting, and Indie queen Brie Larson (Short Term 12, Trainwreak, 21 Jump Street).

'Room' tells the extraordinary story of Jack (TREMBLAY), a spirited 5-year-old who is looked after by his loving and devoted Ma (LARSON). Like any good mother, Ma dedicates herself to keeping Jack happy and safe, nurturing him with warmth and love and doing typical things like playing games and telling stories. Their life, however, is anything but typical -they are trapped - confined to a windowless, 10-by-10-foot space, which Ma has euphemistically named “Room.” Ma has created a whole universe for Jack within Room, and she will stop at nothing to ensure that, even in this treacherous environment, Jack is able to live a complete and fulfilling life. But as Jack’s curiosity about their situation grows, and Ma’s resilience reaches its breaking point, they enact a risky plan to escape, ultimately bringing them face-to-face with what may turn out to be the scariest thing yet: the real world.

I don’t want to get too in depth with the review because the less you know about this film the better it’ll be to experience, just trust me on this.

On the other hand, you can’t but not talk about Tremblay’s performance and it’s easy to say he’s one of the best child actors EVER! There’s so much growth throughout his performance and it’s scary to think he’s only NINE YEARS OLD and this adorable kid could become one of the best actors in the future. It’s a shame he didn’t get an Oscar nomination for best supporting actor.

Larson’s performance was gripping and heartbreaking and you can’t see a light at the end of her tunnel, she really cuts to your emotional core. After winning best actress at the Golden Globes and getting nominated for best actress at the Oscars, I wouldn’t be surprised if she wins.

I know The Revenant and Creed are also released today and both have been getting great reviews and I’ll see them. However, I truly believe they don't cut you into your core emotion and rip your heart like Room does and in Trembley’s performance you see the joys of a child’s innocents and it warms your heart.

Verdict
One of the best performances from a child I’ve ever seen from Trembley with fantastic support from Larson. After receiving four Oscar nominations including Best Film, Best Actress, Best Director for Lenny Abrahamson and Best Adapted Screenplay.

Make this the film to see this weekend!
