The Live-Action Pokemon Movie Is Detective Pikachu

Last week, I wrote a story that due to the huge global success of Pokémon GO! Legendary was about to kick start bringing Pokémon to live action. Now we got some more details, just in time for San Diego Comic-Con, on this new Pokémon cinematic universe and it’ll focus on a new character: Detective Pikachu.

Yes, you did read it right. So instead of a live action Pokémon, the studio are focusing on the most popular and recognisable character from the franchise. The new spin on the character was first introduced in a Japanese video game, and now he’ll be bringing those sleuthing skills to the world.

To be honest, we’re not sure what he’ll be bringing. The announcement gave little clues to what is actually happening apart from it’ll be live-action (with the detective brought to life via CGI) and they want shooting to start next year yet we have no idea who’s writing, directing or starring.

When I first heard about this, I seriously thought it was a joke, but it turns out it’s not and Legendary are in fact this stupid. I go to the cinema and leave my brain at the door, but Pikachu as Colombo is something ridiculous. What is going to do solving a murder in a Pokémon gymnasium?
