Brie Larson To Make Her Directorial Debut With Indie Comedy

If it wasn’t enough to win an Oscar and join the Marvel family as Captain Marvel, Brie Larson is now adding directing to her CV.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Larson, who won the Oscar this year for her superb leading performance in Room, is set to make her helming debut in the quirky independent comedy Unicorn Store.

When the 26-year-old isn’t busy reading Captain Marvel comics in her onesie, she’s also set to star and produce.

The story is based on an original screenplay by Samantha McIntyre, and it focuses on a woman called Kit who, after moving back with her parents, receives a mysterious invitation to a store that will test her idea of what it really means to grow up.

Rebel Wilson was originally set to star, but the timing never worked out. Now the project is set to start production in October.

Larson is set to become a busy lady with Warner Bros/Legendary’s big –budget monster film Kong: Skull Island, as well as reteaming with her “Short Term 12” director Destin Daniel Cretton for Lionsgate’s coming-of-age drama The Glass Castle. She’s also getting her action hero on in Ben Wheatley’s Free Fire, which is being released by StudioCanal. Plus, Larson is the newest member of the Marvel Studios family and starring as the studio's first female lead film, Captain Marvel.

When you look at the list of these films it’s got a good balance of big budget studio films and Indies and the fact Larson wants to keep making these smaller films just shows her character.

The fact she’s now set her sights on directing at just 26 shows ambitious she wants to be and it doesn’t matter what Larson is in, I’ll be watch because she’s such a talented actress and it won’t be long until she’s talked about in the same breath as Meryl Streep.
