First Look At Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk

Christopher Nolan, war film. Those four words would get most cinemagoers excited, but now add Dunkirk into the mix then we could have something incredible.

I think the story of Dunkirk is desperately in need to keep the memory of World War Two and those events alive for the generation that won’t be able to hear these stories from their grandparents and great grandparents. Hopefully, Nolan’s original screenplay will help.

This announcement trailer just teases the potential, but Nolan does a great early job to give us an idea of how intense this film will be with the use of the ticking clock and some of these shots are what we come to expect from Nolan big, wide and beautiful.

Just the final shot of the British soldiers look in shock horror as the German aircraft gets closer.

There wasn’t any story to this teaser (as it was just a teaser), but we should learn more when the first official trailer is released by the end of the year, my guess November attached to Fantastic Beasts.

The film also has prestigious cast showcasing the best of British acting including Tom Hardy (The Revenant, Mad Max: Fury Road, The Dark Knight Rises), Mark Rylance (Bridge of Spies, Wolf Hall), Kenneth Branagh (My Week with Marilyn, Hamlet, Henry V) and Cillian Murphy (Inception, The Dark Knight Trilogy). Plus newcomers to the big screen Fionn Whitehead and Harry Styles.

The last thing that gets me excited is the chance to see it in 70mm and 35mm ratios as Nolan is a huge fan of using film and IMAX cameras over digital.

The film will be landing in UK cinemas July 21st, 2017.

“Dunkirk” opens as hundreds of thousands of British and Allied troops are surrounded by enemy forces.  Trapped on the beach with their backs to the sea they face an impossible situation as the enemy closes in.
