Live By Night Trailer Review - Ben Affleck Is Back In The Directing Seat And Wearing A Cool Hat

In the early hours of this morning (9th September) Warner Bros released the first teaser trailer for Ben Affleck’s next directed film, Live By Night.

After spending time away to play Batman, Affleck is back in the directing chair for the fourth time following the critically acclaimed Gone Baby Gone, The Town and Argo, the Oscar winner also wrote the screenplay and stars. You can watch the trailer below.

Even when I was watching it 6:45am, still half and sleep and one eye still closed, I loved this trailer. There’s something that Affleck does you quickly connect with the characters of his films, good or bad, you get a picture of who they are. He’s also got a stellar cast with Elle Fanning, Zoe Saldana, Sienna Miller and the always reliable Brendan Gleeson.

This film will also show how Affleck directs action as you get an even better idea of how his Batman film will look.

Even though January is the toilet month for movies, Live By Night screams Oscars and with no competition in that month, it could also rule the box office depending how well Rogue One: A Star Wars Story does.

However, at two and a half minutes, this is not a teaser trailer. This is a full trailer and I don’t need to see anything else for the film, I’ve already booked my ticket in my head. Also, I WANT THAT POSTER IN MY ROOM!!

Live By Night hits UK cinemas January 13, 2017.

Oscar winner Ben Affleck (“Argo”) directed and stars in the dramatic crime thriller “Live by Night.”  Affleck also wrote the screenplay, based on the award-winning best-seller by Dennis Lehane; it marks the second collaboration for the fellow Boston natives, following the acclaimed drama “Gone Baby Gone.”

“Live by Night” is set in the roaring `20s when Prohibition hasn’t stopped the flow of booze in an underground network of gangster-run speakeasies.  The opportunity to gain power and money is there for any man with enough ambition and nerve and Joe Coughlin, the son of the Boston Police Superintendent, long ago turned his back on his strict upbringing for the spoils of being an outlaw.  But even among criminals there are rules and Joe breaks a big one: crossing a powerful mob boss by stealing his money and his moll.  The fiery affair ends in tragedy, setting Joe on a path of revenge, ambition, romance and betrayal that propels him out of Boston and up the ladder of Tampa’s steamy rum-running underworld.

Starring with Affleck are Elle Fanning (“Maleficent”), Brendan Gleeson (“In the Heart of the Sea,” the “Harry Potter” films), Chris Messina (“Argo,” “The Mindy Project”), Sienna Miller (“American Sniper,” “Foxcatcher”), Zoe Saldana (“Guardians of the Galaxy,” “Avatar”), and Oscar winner Chris Cooper (“Adaptation,” “The Town”).
