After a fantastic first season, The Flash is back to continue its dominates of being DC TV’s most successful show and possibly the best superhero show on the small screen.

Stuck by the supercharged fallout of a particle accelerator explosion, forensic scientist Barry Allen (Gustin) becomes the fastest man alive: The Flash! With his newfound time-warping speed and help from the S.T.A.R. Labs team – Caitlin Snow (Panabaker), Cisco Ramon (Valdes) and Harrison Wells (Cavanagh) – and his adoptive family, Detective Joe West (Martin) and Joe’s daughter, Iris West (Patton), the Scarlet Speedster runs circles around metahumans intent on wreaking havoc in Central City, while traveling between alternate universes and protecting our world from an otherworldly villain as Zoom. Skyrocket into DC Comics’ thrilling multiverses in all 23 Season Two episodes of The Flash, plus the groundbreaking crossover episode of Arrow.

The first episode of season two kicks off where season one ended and it was great to see the continuation of Allen’s character growing and it could be said for the whole of season two. Which makes the final moments of season two so frustrating because he’s made five steps forward to trip over and go back six steps.

Gustin as an actor also grows throughout this season with most of his best scenes are with either Martin or Cavanagh. It makes you forget you're watching a show aimed at 13-25-year-olds. It's great to see actors like Cavanagh and Martin to show their acting chops, Gustin's best performance is in episode 21 - The Runaway Dinosaur.

It’s also awesome to see Panabaker to be able to show a different side to Caitlin when we went to Earth-2 and see her doppelganger, Killer Frost. Panabaker can play a villain really well and (even though I love her as Caitlin) I’m hoping to see her slowly growing to become Killer Frost in season three.

However, it has to be said some of the lead cast are never as consistent as Valdes. He’s always that one person who helps break the ice or as a portal for the audiences to connect with the characters and the world as a whole. Valdes can also play a villain rather well and I’m looking forward to seeing how his character changes in season three.

Even though the villain of the episode got boring really quickly, Zoom as this season's big bad was terrifying and whatever episode he was in changed it from mediocre – good and from good – great, but I think they reveal of who Zoom was just an episode or two early.

Season two as a whole is great overall, but it should have been 13 episodes and not 23 because it was too many with 5-10 of those episodes just filler and they didn’t affect the overall story.

Verdict

A strong second season of The Flash with some great episodes, Gustin, Martin and Cavanagh were the shows stand out actors. I’m looking forward to seeing what’s in store for us in Season Three.
