With the news about Guy Ritchie is set to direct the live-action re-imagining of Aladdin, I thought I’d do a quick fancast.
First, I think it’s important Disney try and look to get a non-white lead actor and actress to play Aladdin and Princess Jasmine.
For Aladdin, I can understand why people would think of Riz Ahmed. He’s a great actor, but at 33-years-old I think he’s too old for the part.
Personally, I think Luke Pasqualino could do a decent job. The British actor looks like Aladdin and at 26-years-old he’s the right age and could make him look a little younger.

As for Princess Jasmine, I think you have to look at the talent happening in Bollywood.
My first thought was Prica Chopra (the villain in the new Baywatch film) and again at 34, she’s too old. Still incredibly beautiful, sexy and talented, she’s just not right for the part. Then I came across a young Bollywood actress called Alia Bhatt.

Bhatt is one of the hottest, talented actresses in Bollywood today and at 23-years-old, she could easily look like Princess Jasmine.
Now comes the role which is unreplaceable, Genie.
No one will ever match the superb performance of Robin Williams, but I think you need another big, comedic present that could match Williams. The one person I thought of was Kevin Hart.
Hart is one of the biggest stand-up comedians in the world right now and is also becoming one of the most in-demand comedic actors in Hollywood too and I think he would do a really good job.
Obviously, the Genie will be a CGI character along with the flying carpet, Baboo the monkey and Lago the parrot.
As to who’d voice Lago? I don’t care really. If I had to choose, probably Andy Samberg.
The final two characters to fancast are Jafar and The Sultan.
The Sultan was a simple one really and picked Omid Djalili. As for Jafar, maybe someone like Lin-Manuel Miranda.
What do you think? Who would you like to see star in this new adaptation of Aladdin? Tweet me @Shaun_Wren to let me know your suggestions.
