This weekend during New York Comic-Con, Lionsgate released the teaser trailer to Power Rangers and you know what it was FUCKING AMAZING!
I didn’t expect myself to say those two words, but it was. I thought they were going to go down the kiddie, campy route, which is fine, but it was kids of the nineties that really grew up with Power Rangers and we needed something better to get us/me excited.
I liked the more grounded, serious tone and these feel like kids could be special, but are outcasts. However, then they get their stones/crystals which give them powers and the suits they wear protects them and makes them that little bit stronger.
You can see the influence from Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy, with the mirrored shot of Dacre Montgomery’s abs similar to Tobey Maguire in 2002’s Spider-Man. Then you also have the final shot of when they morph into their suits, which looks more like the Venom Symbiote from Spider-Man 3.

Well, it looks like Lionsgate and Saban were thinking the same thing as this is the studios chance to get back into the franchise game and turning the Power Rangers into superheroes.
It’s been called The Breakfast Club meets Chronicle and I think after the positive reaction from critics and fans, this could be the perfect start Lionsgate and director Dean Israelite (Project Almanac) were looking for.

We have to remember this was just a teaser trailer and this doesn’t mean the film will be good, but I think we can be more open-minded when the film is released.
What I need from the official trailer is just a little bit more story of this alien threat led by Elizabeth Banks’ Rita Repulsa and we’ll most likely get more action and probably a quick teaser of Zordon played by Bryan Cranston.

Just one quick thing, whoever bullies someone as beautiful as Naomi Scott is something I just don’t believe it. Even in a film.
