The strong Deadpool quartet of Ryan Reynolds, director Tim Miller and writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick has gone down to a trio as Miller has left the Fox sequel due to “creative differences.”
According to Deadline, it ended amicably between Miller and the studio as they’re still very high on Miller and they’re hoping he’ll jump on board another big project called Influx.
However, shortly after this news broke, The Wrap’s super scooper Umberto Gonzalez found out things weren’t as amicable between Miller and Reynolds. With sources telling the site “The two haven’t had much of a relationship since the first ‘Deadpool’ was released, not even speaking for longs periods of time.”
So what happened? Miller was all set to direct the sequel and it wasn’t given a release date with the thinking it was a sign of confidence from the studio to Miller to make the perfect film. It turns out it was because when Reynolds’ agent renegotiated the deal, as well as getting a lot more money, the actor got more creative controls like casting approval.
“It shined a spotlight on differences between the two key players.”
One of the differences was the direction and tone of the with Miller wanting more of a stylised sequel, while the star focus on doing more of a raunchy comedy, similar to what earned it the original film it’s R-rating (15 rating).

The Wrap also says they clashed over the casting of Cable with the director wanting Kyle Chandler in the role adding “Miller wanted the ‘Bloodline’ star to play Cable, though Reynolds did not and that the studio, ultimately, back its marketable star.”
It’s a huge shame Miller has left this project as Deadpool has been one of my favourite comic-book film of 2016 and he had as much influence getting the original made as Reynolds. Then, going on to make more than $782 million dollars worldwide on a $58 million budget was a testament to what these two can do.
It happened so fast as last week, Miller and the studio were testing 10 actresses for the role of Domino.

Now, Deadpool 2 is looking for a director that’ll get fans excited again maybe someone like Edger Wright or Matthew Vaughn (depending on when he finishes working on Kingsman 2). Meanwhile, Miller is the biggest directing free agent in Hollywood with some DC fans hoping he’ll help Margot Robbie develop the Harley Quinn film.
Personally, I’d love to see Miller direct a DC Film like Man of Steel 2 and Star Wars spin-off, but you know every studio will be calling endlessly to get a meeting with the man and pitch their films to him.
