Could another famous and evil mastermind behind the success of the Empire be making his long-awaited return to the big screen in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
Director Gareth Edwards’s prequel is about a gang of rebels stealing the plans to the Death Star, with the film ending 10 minutes before the events in Star Wars: A New Hope.
Besides Darth Vader watching in the shadows, we all know Ben Mendelsohn’s Orson Krennic will be the main villain, but now it looks like the Empire’s weapons expert will be answering to another important, high ranked member of the Empire.
While talking to USA Today, Edwards might of accidently let slip Grand Moff Tarkin – a role made iconic by Peter Cushing – could make an appearance in Rogue One.
Edwards’ comments came when he was talking about Krennic not being the traditional Star Wars villain with a “very posh English accent” adding “It feels like if the Empire ever had a job vacancy, they go to the Royal Shakespeare Company to headhunt people.
“I like the idea that Ben’s character was much more working-class (and rose to power through) sheer force of personality and ideas.”
However, when it to the chances of Krennic getting promotion Edwards teased “(Krennic) hits a brick wall in the hierarchy where they won’t let him in the club and it’s going to turn into a them-or-us situation: either Krennic or Tarkin and the others.”

Personally, I’m not sure this means we will see Tarkin in Rogue One, but I do think he’ll make a cameo closer to the end of the film and giving the order to Vader to kill Krennic , retrieve the Death Star plans and kill all the rebels.
