Step aside Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel because there’s a new superhero badass in town.
Avengelyne, by Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld, looks like to be the next big superhero movie to go into development after Paramount Pictures picked up the rights to turn the character into a film.
According to Deadline, Akiva Goldsman – who’s been working on overseeing the Transformers movies – is set to produce and may also direct. He’s also currently looking for a screenwriter.
Probably like a lot of you, I’ve never heard of Avengelyne. However, she sounds like she’s got an awesome backstory. Avengelyne was the most feared warrior in Heaven’s Warhost, but she was banished from heaven by God after being tricked into questioning his love for humans, the former angel now roams the earth fighting demons and trying to redeem herself as humanity’s last hope facing an oncoming Armageddon.

I wonder if this song will play when the Armageddon happens?
Liefeld was previously planning to write the script and had former MMA fighter turned actress Gina Carano, who played Angel Dust in Deadpool, in mind for the role, but she isn’t currently attached. I doubt she’ll be anywhere near the role as she’s not the best of actresses.

Liefeld has also described the story as a tale of redemption, so don’t expect anything similar to the R-rated Merc with the Mouth. If anything it’ll be R-rated due to the violence, stunts and grittier look.
People who are handling the project have been using John Wick as a point of reference.
All in all this character and story sounds awesome, the only thing that worries me is Goldsman because the Transformers films aren’t any good and I think there're better directors available.
The two who come to mind are Tim Miller, as his work on Deadpool would make him able to tell this story with the more grounded look and his Blur studios could handle the CGI. On the other hand, I think Lexi Alexander would be kick-arse because (similar to Miller) she knows how to direct action and with her being attached to the Chris Benoit story, she’ll be able to show off her storytelling.
