After months of fighting back questions about his solo Batman film, Ben Affleck finally gave the biggest hint to date the film be coming to our cinema screens as soon as 2018.
Affleck’s semi-confirmation comes off the heels that The
Batman (no title has been confirmed, but this the title) will be replacing
Justice League 2 so director Zack Snyder can focus on something else besides
superheroes and work on his passion project The Last Photograph. Meanwhile,
Warner Bros can push forward with making Affleck’s Batman.

Now, in an interview with Variety, Affleck has revealed The
Batman will begin production in the spring of 2017.
“We’re right on track with that and everything is coming
together,” he said. “We’re still finishing up a script. I’m very excited.”
In the past, Affleck has denied his Batman film will be an adaptation
of a specific DC Comics story from the characters 75 years, he also promises he’ll
forge his own vision for The Dark Knight moving forward in the DCU.
“I respect all of (the past) movies, Christopher Nolan did
an incredible job, Christian Bale did an incredible job, Tim Burton did an
incredible job.”
No Joel Schumacher shout out Ben? Oh, that’s right, his
Batman movies were terrible.
“At a certain point you have to look forward and try to
believe in your own vision for it and not be looking over your shoulder the
whole time. I go into that movie with a tremendous amount of respect for the
people who came before me” added Affleck.
But not Schumacher.
In The Batman, we’ll see an ageing Bruce Wayne go toe-to-toe
against Deathstroke (played by Joe Manganiello) for the first time in live
action.

Jeremy Iron’s Alfred Pennyworth will also be in the film, but no
word if they’ll be cameos from characters in Batman’s rogues gallery already in
the DCU – Jared Leto’s Joker, Harley Quinn played by Margot Robbie, Will Smith
as Deadshot and finally Killer Croc played by Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje.
I can fully understand why Affleck wasn’t giving too much info
about his Batman film because he and Warner Bros wanted to focus on promoting
his directed passion project, Live By Night.
Before Batman goes off for his solo adventure, he has the
small job of getting Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), Flash (Ezra Miller), Cyborg (Ray
Fisher) and Aquaman (Jason Momoa) to fight Steppenwolf and getting saved by
Superman (Henry Cavill) in Justice League.
Justice League will be coming to the UK on November 17, 2017.
