Details Of The 'Escape From New York' Remake Revealed

Some major news about the remake of “Escape From New York” was revealed yesterday, so before I continue if you don’t want to know anything about the film then STOP READING! MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD!

For many of us, “Escape From New York” was a part of our dad's VHS or DVD collection, or it’s shown on ITV4, but you should give it a watch. It’s pretty kick-ass.

So how will this new remake differ from the original? According to The Wrap, New York City won’t be a maximum security prison (which was the whole point in the original), we’ll learn the real name of “Snake” Plissken, they’ll be a different villain and it won’t start in New York?

The remake of the John Carpenter 1981 cult-classic will be written by Neal Cross, who you might know as the creator of super popular BBC crime series Luther.

Just in case you don’t know the plot of the original film directed by Carpenter, it’s set in a dystopian future starring Kurt Russell as eye-patch wearing Plissken. A prisoner who had to save the president of the United States after his plane crashed in a future Manhattan-turned-maximum security prison.

The film will be made by Twentieth Century Fox with Carpenter attached as executive producer.

These were the few pieces of info that were revealed and please take this with a grain of salt:

The villain won’t be the Duke of New York – Instead, it’ll be a lean and charismatic playboy heir called Thomas Newton.

The role originally played by Lee Van Cleef will now be played by a woman – This updated version will introduce us to CIA Roberta Hauk.

New York isn’t a maximum security prison – This was a major plot point in the original, but now New York is a beautiful city with the Manhattan we all know. The sky is full of drones designed to look like bees, an artificial intelligence controls all and is in the form of a cheery woman named April and she’s control by a number of technicians called Seers.

The film won’t start in New York – Again this is a plot point from the original film, instead, this version will be set in a different major city, one not in the US.

The film will imagine the world in chaos – What this updated version will focus on will be hitting close to home. As globally, one in every seventy-five human begins will now be either a refugee, internally displaced or seeking asylum.

This is all the details I’m willing to give you if you want to find out more info click here.
