Out now on Blu-Ray and DVD is War Dogs starring Johan Hill and Miles Teller. If you want to check out my full review, click on the link here.
This review is focused on the Blu-Ray special features because as someone who loves buying Blu-Rays and DVD’s watching the special features is something I enjoy highly and learning how a certain director went through the process of getting his/her movie made.
Even for films, I’m not the biggest fan of, I still find the special features fascinating and War Dogs is no different.

The features you’ll get on with this Blu-Ray are General Phillips: Boots on the Ground, Access Granted and Pentagon Pie.
The Pentagon Pie is a two minute 45-second animated educational sing-along about the government handing out these contracts and the how these lads went from eating crumbs to getting too greedy and eating the full pie.
The two most interesting features were the eight and a half minute video on director Todd Phillips and a 10-minute video about the true story of Efraim Diveroli and David Packouz.
Let’s begin with General Phillips: Boots on the Ground. Todd Phillips, along with his cast and crew, talks about how he heard about the Rolling Stones article and thought it would be a brilliant idea for a film and best way to do that was to tell the story from Packouz’s point of view.
I found it fascinating how Phillips planned beforehand how to shoot certain shots; it was like watching a Quarterback going through a certain play. It was also great to see how he liked to shot in real locations from Romania to a little town or area called El Centro in California (two-hour plane journey outside LA) and was doubled as Iraq.

The final special features were Access Granted and it was about the real life Packouz (who I didn’t know was in the film) talking about how the real events happened and watching the film Phillips did stay as faithful as possible.
While he talks you can hear some of the pain he went through and briefly talks about some of the things he regrets.
What this 10-minute video also used was real news/government video and it was very effective as well as the step by step guide to their rise and fall. It was fascinating to hear about the real-life backstory with the government and I think I mentioned it in my review, but President Bash and the government were fucking idiots.
If it wasn’t for these two young lads finding these loopholes, something could have happened which would have been a lot worst for the government.
Verdict
These special features were interesting and if you’re interested in watching the film and then checking out these features, I’d wait until the Blu-Ray is on sale. Watching the features, I do think this story could’ve been told as a documentary.
