Get Ready To Meet A Brand New Spider-Man

We’ll be getting a second Spider-Man film coming and it’s not Peter Parker.

For many years fans have been begging Sony to give Miles Morales a chance to be brought to life on the big screen. Well, Sony has listened, but not in live action but in animation instead.

During a presentation by Sony Pictures Animated for their upcoming slate, they revealed some details about their Untitled Animated Spider-Man Project. Sony confirmed the project will be a standalone film and Miles Morales will be the lead character.

The film will be written by Phil Lord and executive produced by Lord and Chris Miller (The Lego Movie, 21 Jump Street) and it’ll be directed by Bob Persichetti (The Little Prince) and Peter Ramsey (Rise of the Guardians) and Sony have also revealed a release date.

Check out the series of live tweets from the events below:

Who is Miles Morales – He’s a teenager of a black father and Puerto Rican mother, Morale took the Spider-Man mantle during Marvel’s Ultimate storyline back in 2011. He took over after Peter Parker’s death, however, after the ‘Secret Wars’ arc back in 2015 (which it condensed all of Marvel’s titles) Morales took to patrolling  New York City and Peter Parker (alive and kicking) takes his crimefighting worldwide.

Because his origin story is so different and refreshing (his uncle is a villain called the Prowler,  stole the formula to recreate Parker’s powers from Oscorp, a spider came along for the ride and bites Miles).

This story got so many people wanting to see it in live-action and on the big screen, rumours spread around before Andrew Garfield’s casting for The Amazing Spider-Man that fans were campaigning for Donald Glover be cast as Peter Parker, but likely to have been for Morales. Then when Marvel and Sony did a deal fans finally thought their dreams would have come true for Captain America: Civil War, but Tom Holland has won hearts and we’ll see Parker be are Spider-Man for Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Morales has made its way to the small screen on Disney XD’s Ultimate Spider-Man animated series and has been voiced by Glover and Ogie Banks.

Hopefully, we’ll hear more about casting and the story for this project soon.

The Untitled Animated Spider-Man Project set to swing into UK and US cinemas on December 21, 2018.
