Why Injustice Should Be An Animated TV Show

IMAGE VIA DC COMICS

I’ve been wanting to write something about this for a while now and with the sequel coming out on PS4 and Xbox One at some point in 2017 (maybe May?) I thought this would be the perfect time to explain why I think Injustice should be an animated TV show.

Before I continue, check out the brilliant and cinematic trailer Injustice 2.

Why Should Injustice Be An Animated TV Show?

The simple reason is because Injustice: God Among Us wouldn’t work as a live action TV show or film and being an animated series would give it plenty of advantages to telling this incredible story.

The reason why I wanted to write about this because I got into reading comic books/ graphic novel in my late teens and one of the first stories I read was Injustice: God Among Us Year One, Part One.

To give some background, the comic book is set five years before the events of the highly popular video game (which I haven’t attached played yet) and we see Superman journey from superhero to world dictator and the Justice League split into two groups: Superman’s regime and the Batman led insurgency.

The story is so fasinating to see Superman becoming a pure villain, but you understand point of view and sort of makes sense, but you know this is just wrong and won't to see his arse kicked. It's also adds another interesting layer to the last son of Krypton, a character I thought was dull as balls before seeing Man of Steel.

I have just started Year Two, Part Two and I think it’s one of the best stories I’ve ever read. I’m glued and can’t seem to put it down and as someone who suffers from dyslexia, this is a rare thing.

The main reason is because of Tom Taylor’s fantastic writing and story and always thought it would be a fantastic animated series since reading Year One, Part One.

Finally, DC Animation has been at their best for the past two decades with Batman, Justice League, Justice League Unlimited, Teen Titans (the good 2003 version), Young Justice and all their movies etc. So why not make it an animated series.

How Would It Work?

Firstly, I’d bring back Tom Taylor to write the episodes and executive produce alongside Young Justice producer’s Greg Wiseman and Brandon Vietti.

Then I’d also bring the talented people behind the animated series and films to take care for the beautiful and iconic animation people recognised. The reason because I’d aim this towards the twenty-somethings who grew up watching the shows I previously listed.

However, with that aiming towards 20-year-olds, I’d stay with the tone already established from both graphic novel and game, so dark but fun.

The next thing to think about how many episodes, it wouldn’t be 20+ episodes instead I’d go with six/seven series with eight/ten episodes per series with every series being the year. For example, Year One = Series One etc towards series six/seven which would cover the video game.

Maybe add a few more series to get to the point where Injustice 2 begins.

The reason why I’d only do so few episodes because this would be aimed at Netflix or Amazon Prime or maybe make it a DC streaming app exclusive.

Who’d Be Cast?

Because of the demographic, I’m aiming towards, I’d bring back some of the iconic voices that made a lot of our childhood.

Obviously, Kevin Conroy would be voicing Batman because he’s the best Batman/Bruce Wayne ever and George Newbern or Tim Daly the two people everyone will recognise as Superman in Justice League/ Justice League Unlimited & Superman animated series.

The temptation is to bring Susan Eisenberg is strong after being the voice of Wonder Woman for decades since Justice League and voices Princess Diana in the video game makes sense, but I’m leaning towards giving Maggie Q a chance to voice her for more than two Young Justice episodes or she can be Catwoman.

There’s a case to be made for Rosario Dawson but decided against it due to voicing Batgirl in LEGO Batman Movie.

I’d also bring back Mark Hamill as the voice of The Joker and after that short time, he’ll be the voice of Sinestro.

Nathan Fillion is Green Lantern, Thomas Brodie-Sangster would voice Damian Wayne and Clancy Brown is Lex Luthor. Alan Tudyk would be Green Arrow, Dinah Lance is voiced by Vanessa Marshall and Harley Quinn is voice everyone remembers from Arleen Sorkin.

So on and so forth, but these are my brief ideas behind casting and there are so many more characters. I just wanted to make sure Conroy and Newbern or Daly return to voice The Dark Knight and Man of Steel.
