Yesterday (Thursday 26th January) Marvel Studios released an official press release to announce Black Panther has begun production revealing the official synopsis and couple of returning characters joining this fantastic cast.
Chadwick Boseman reprises his role as Wakandan king T’Challa aka Black Panther.
The press release reads like this: “Marvel Studios announced today that production has begun on Black Panther, starring Chadwick Boseman (Captain America: Civil War, Get On Up), Michael B. Jordan (Creed, Fruitvale Station), Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong’o (Star Wars: The Force Awakens, 12 Years a Slave), Danai Gurira (The Walking Dead, upcoming All Eyez on Me).
"Martin Freeman (Hobbit trilogy, Sherlock), Daniel Kaluuya (upcoming Get Out, Sicario), with Academy Award nominee Angela Bassett (American Horror Story, London Has Fallen), with Academy Award winner Forest Whitaker (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Lee Daniels’ The Butler) and Andy Serkis (Avenger: Age of Ultron, Star Wars: The Force Awakens).”
I know this shouldn’t be surprised, but I wondered if Serkis, who played Black Panther villain weapons smuggler Ulysses Klaue aka Klaw in Age of Ultron, would return, but the confirmation makes sense. Plus, we’ll see Freeman’s US terror czar Everett K. Ross returning too.

If the main cast wasn’t brilliant already, the additional cast members are also filled with plenty of talent including T’Challa’s father. “Additional cast members include Letitia Wright (Urban Hymn, Glasgow Girls), Winston Duke (Person of Interest, Modern Family), Florence Kasumba (Captain America: Civil War, Emerald City), Sterling K. Brown (Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, The People vs OJ Simpson: American Crime Story) and John Kani (Captain America: Civil War, Coriolanus).”
One person missing is Sebastian Stan’s Winter Solider, who we last saw him being frozen deep inside T’Challa’s kingdom.
As well as the cast announcements, Marvel Studios also revealed the film’s synopsis and it sounds pretty damn awesome.

“Black Panther follows T’Challa, after the events of Captain America: Civil War, returns home to the isolated, technologically advanced African nation of Wakanda to his place as King.
However, when an old enemy reappears on the radar, T’Challa’s mettle as King and Black Panther is tested when he is drawn into a conflict that puts the entire fate of Wakanda and the world at risk.”
HOW. AWESOME. DOES. THIS. FILM. SOUND!
Even though the synopsis doesn’t reveal a lot I would suspect this “old enemy” is Michael B. Jordan’s character Erik Killmonger – a powerful warrior and strategic genius in politics and economics, who will stop at nothing to have Wakanda for himself. He’s a major threat to Black Panther as he’s an expert fighter both physically and mentally.

With Ryan Coolger both as a director and co-writer of the screenplay, I believe Jordan could be the best villain in the MCU.
Finally, the hype and excitement for this film is hitting the top because despite me not liking Captain America: Civil War, Black Panther was one of the few things I liked and got excited to see his solo film. Then add this incredible cast and story this film will be in my top three most anticipated films of 2018 and defiantly my most anticipated Marvel film.
Black Panther hits UK cinemas on 9th February 2018 before releasing in the US on February 16, 2018.
