Last week I reported on the rumour that Disney and Lucasfilm were looking to cast Woody Harrelson to play Han Solo’s mentor in the upcoming standalone film.
Those rumours were spot on and The Hunger Games and Cheers star was confirmed to appear in the yet untitled Young Han Solo film and during a chat with Mashable, he gave some more info about the role.
“I’m a mentor to Han, but I’m also a bit of a criminal. I don’t think I should say much more than that, because the force is not allowing me” he explained.
Then when he spoke to Collider, Harrelson described being a part of the movie as “mind-blowing.”

He added “I never would’ve imagined that I’d get this opportunity so I’m really pumped about it. I really like those directors [Phil Lord and Chris Miller]. I think they’re really great.
“You know let’s face it, almost any film if the director’s great then the movie has a shot, but if they’re not obviously you’ve got very little chance of a good movie. I just feel great to be a part of that. What a cool thing.”
Casting an actor of Harrelson’s talent is only a good thing, but to be honest I’m still on the fence about Han Solo having a mentor in the first place. I just think I need to see a trailer or hear some more info about the character etc.
I’m still looking forward to the film, which stars Alden Ehrenreich playing the character made iconic by Harrison Ford. He’ll be joined by Atlanta’s Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian and Game of Thrones’ Emilia Clarke playing an unknown female character.
