Green Lantern Corps News & Fancasting and Dwayne Johnson Talks Meeting With Geoff Johns

I haven’t done a DC Films news round-up in a very long, mainly because news has been bare in recent weeks, but this week has been pretty jam packed.

Green Lantern Corps is Steam Rolling

Green Lantern Corps was a DC movie that was getting no interactions, sure people were fancasting, but nothing news wise was coming out of Warner Bros and DC.

It all changed last week when Deadline revealed WB/DC have hired two writers to pen the script and they’re aiming to be something similar to “Lethal Weapon in space” and we’ll have two Lantern’s – Hal Jordan & John Stewart.

Hal Jordan & John Stewart Fancasting

After this news came out, fans began to think about who could play the two most iconic Green Lanterns for two different generations. Comic book fans and the older generation have Hal as their GL, meanwhile, thanks to the Justice League and Justice League Unlimited animated series many younger generations have Stewart as their GL.

So the question no one has asked me, who would I cast?

Hal Jordan – I think this role has been cast because I’m becoming more convinced we will see him at the end of Justice League either something in the final moments of the third act when the League defeats Steppenwolf to warn them of an even bigger thought. Or we’ll see him giving them the same warning in the post credits.

So playing Hal Jordan will be Armie Hammer.

Either he’s one of the best actors and trolls on Twitter having some fun at fans or he’s Hal Jordan and I think he’ll be brilliant.

I saw Free Fire during the London Film Festival and Hammer was great and well humoured in the film. Also being 30 he could be the older veteran Lantern who has to train a new human Lantern.

John Stewart – This is the character I want to see just right because he was so well portrayed in the animated series and keeping the ex-army hero is important to why he’s so great.

The first thing WB will have to do is check to see who isn’t involved in Marvel’s Black Panther.

Once they’ve done that the two actors in mind are stars of Moonlight – Trevante Rhodes & Mahershala Ali.

LEFT - MAHERSHALA ALI; RIGHT - TREVANTE RHODES

I saw Ali in Luke Cage and thought he was brilliant as the villain Cottonmouth and wish he wasn’t killed off (sorry spoilers, but it’s been out for ages) and I’m looking forward to seeing Moonlight when it’s released in the UK.

Meanwhile, if they’re playing off the ex-solider than Ali being 42 could work and the fact him being older than Hal could be a fun and interesting dynamic.

On the other hand, I think WB will go is having a younger Stewart and have him coming out of the Army due to PTSD or medical grounds, but still wants to do some good in the world.

Which is way Rhodes (Ali’s Moonlight co-star) could be a decent choice because he’s winning a lot of praise for his performance in Moonlight and being 26 he’s younger than Hammer and they can play on the veteran Lantern teaching the newbie.

Dwayne Johnson Talks Exciting and Fun DCU To Come.

Last week, Dwayne Johnson had a meeting with DC Films co-chief Geoff Johns because he’s The Rock and he had this message to tell fans what happened.

However, I do have one problem with what he said about “tonal shifts” and “FUN” in capitals.

People don’t seem to get the main issue with DC connecting with audiences isn’t tone, it’s the story and script. No one complained about Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy being dark, so complaining about the DCU being "dark" is really a non-starter.

Also, I’ve had fun watching these current DCU films, I think Man of Steel is a brilliant superb film, Batman v Superman gets better and better when watching it and had a fantastic time seeing it in the theatre and Suicide Squad is just a stupid, summer blockbuster action film to me.

These current DC movies have a strong fanbase and like the fact these films are “dark”, so what happens to this part of the fanbase?

I think we can all agree we don’t mind having the hope, optimism and fun, but we don’t want to lose the grittiness of these films and makes them stand up for themselves.

On the other hand, if everyone is getting excited than I'm excited and looking forward to these films. I just want to make sure they get a good deal of balance.
