If you’re worried about not seeing Ben Affleck directing the live action Batman, don’t worry because LEGO Batman is back and no one wears black (and yellow) as good as him!
To give you the idea of the story despite LEGO Batman (Arnett) starring in his own big-screen adventure, there are big changes brewing in Gotham City and if he wants to save the city from The Joker’s (Galifianakis) hostile takeover. Batman may have to drop the lone vigilante thing, try to work with others and maybe, just maybe, learn to lighten up.

From the opening moments, LEGO Batman made me laugh more than most comedies honestly the joke about DC Comics was brilliant. It was so self-aware you’ll likely go back and rewatch all previous Batman films and just laugh at how spot on McKay and screenwriter Seth Grahame-Smith were. It also reminded me how many similarities between this film and the Adam West Batman 60’s TV show and film.
A lot of the time the jokes and self-awareness work's, it’s utterly hilarious and even when I think the joke has run its course and some jokes were naff, but even then it still worked.
The voice cast was fantastic, Arnett plays Batman very well and it was nice to hear how his version of Bruce Wayne would sound and it help buy into this Batman, but I hoped he kept his Wayne voice midway through one sense instead of his changing back to Batman.

Galifianakis was a good choice as Joker and his chemistry with Arnett worked especially with turning their long history into more of a relationship, which felt new and fresh, and all that Joker wants is for Batman to HATE HIM it’s beautiful actually.

Cera voiced Dick Grayson/Robin very well and was well used to bring more life to Batman and made him more grounded. Though it was weird to see Grayson looking like Carrie Kelley. Dawson is just a pro, I want her to be in the live action DCU. Meanwhile, Fiennes was fine his Alfred was like a mixture of Michael Caine and Efrem Zimbalist Jr (voiced Alfred in the Batman Animated Series).

It was great to see so many villains from Batman’s rogue’s gallery especially D-listers like Calendar Man and Condiment King! They’re villains I think were made up. Also, keep an ear out for Bane's voice.
One of my biggest highlights from this film was the music and the score. The score would easily fit into any live-action Batman film or superhero film it was that good I’m going to buy the soundtrack and the Batman theme song was kick ass, great guitar solo.
It did start to feel over the top, but even though it was ok because it is a LEGO film and they need to sell toys. I just sort of wish we saw more from the DC Universe with the Justice League and DC villains, so fingers crossed if this film does well (and it will) we could see a LEGO Justice League Movie (directed by Grahame-Smith?) involving the likes of Lex Luthor and Darkseid.

Finally, this is the perfect family film and a great way to introduce kids to the world of Batman and maybe the world of DC Comics. This is down to McKay doing a fantastic job directing and I truly believe he’s the only person to direct The Flash and hopefully, you’ll want that too.
Verdict
This is a perfect family film with a brilliant voice cast and fun story. There were plenty of funny jokes with plenty more hits then misses and even those misses are still hits and the soundtrack was fantastic.
