Warner Bros Hopes One Of These Five DC Films Could Still Come Out In 2018

With Wonder Woman and Justice League coming out in 2017, The Flash dropping out of its 2018 release date and there’s no way The Batman will be coming out sooner, it looks like DC Films will only have one film coming out in 2018 with Aquaman and that’s at the end of that year.

So there’s massive room to add another DCU film and according to Variety’s Justin Kroll, one of these five films could be fast-tracked, but only if the script is ready and Warner Bros are happy with it.

Those films are:
  • Gotham City Sirens
  • Suicide Squad 2
  • The Flash
  • Green Lantern Corps
  • Dark Universe (aka Justice League Dark)

Right from the off, I’m taking out Green Lantern Corps because the film doesn’t have a director or cast attached and production would have to start like NOW due to the VFX and CGI work needed to be done. I’m removing Dark Universe because the only news we have is Doug Liman is attached to helm the movie and we’ve heard nothing since. Plus they’d have to start filming now due to the VFX and CGI work.

Meanwhile, even though they have Ezra Miller and Kiersey Clemons attached to star as Barry Allen/The Flash and Iris West, The Flash is another unlikely because the film is getting a page one rewrite and after losing two directors already, WB can’t rush this film. Also, Miller will be filming Fantastic Beasts 2 in London this summer.

This leaves us with Suicide Squad 2 and Gotham City Sirens. The studio has just started talks to bring a writer on board for the Squad sequel so it's slim they’d want to rush this film that quickly due to the mix response to the first film.

Even though GCS is probably the furthest along the production line, the fact David Ayer had such as mix/negative response to Suicide Squad, he and Margot Robbie will want to make sure the script is perfect before shooting.

Finally, I just don’t see any of these films being fast-tracked like this and (though a case can be made Suicide Squad 2 and GCS could/should start filming with practical effects which shorten the post-production) they shouldn’t  rush anything.

Just stick to having Aquaman be the only 2018 DC film, then have Suicide Squad 2 and Gotham City Sirens come out in 2019 alongside The Batman (and maybe Nightwing?). In 2020 have The Flash, Green Lantern Corps and Dark Universe released.

The next film to come out of the DCU is Wonder Woman on 2nd June 2017.
