I love Blu-ray/DVD extras, whenever I want to buy a DVD or Blu-ray I always check if the bonus features are worth my money.
My most recent favourites have been The Dark Knight Trilogy Deluxe Edition, Batman v Superman Ultimate Edition, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Straight Outta Compton and About Time.
Now I can add Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them to the list and it’s some of the best bonus features out there. It’s 100% must have for all Potterheads!
I enjoyed and liked Fantastic Beasts a lot (click here to read my full review) and this hour and 45 minutes long extras are just as good.
So what extras do you get in the Blu-ray, sadly there are no bloopers.
Before Harry Potter: A New Era of Magic – 15 Minutes
This mini-documentary gives an insight into how close the core team of JK Rowling, Producers David Heyman and Lionel Wigram and lesser assent Director David Yates are working together and you get to see their passion and love.
This core team is the reason these films have been so beloved because, in the case of Heyman, Wigram and Yates, they all want to bring what Rowling has in her head to screen.
Meanwhile, it gives insight into how this film was conceived from Wigram being the first person to come up with a concept to do something with Beasts with an initial idea of making it a documentary before getting Rowling on board.
It also shows how much the cast want to please Yates and seeing how much he loves working with this material.
Characters – 26 Minutes
This is split into five mini clips getting to know the characters a little bit more, for example, I didn’t know (likely forgotten) Newt had an older brother who’s a war hero.
I highly recommend Potter fans to watch The New Salemers clip as Rowling gives more in-depth details about the Salemers and the Barebones family.

Creatures – 18 minutes
Again this is seven mini clips about getting to know all these fantastic beasts and creatures in the film.

It’s fascinating to see these creatures come to life through VFX and seeing the different concepts of Bowtruckle and Niffler. Then seeing puppeteers bring these characters to life so the actors have an idea of what they’ll be like and having some visual to act against.
You also get a mini bio behind each character.
Design – 32 Minutes
Six clips exploring how everyone working behind the scenes brought this 1920’s wizarding world to life and this is my favourite bonus feature on the Blu-ray.
It shows off how incredible and awesome everyone who worked on the production is at their individual jobs from set design, concept art to beautiful VFX and Collen Atwood’s Oscar-winning costume design.
This includes building the largest set’s ever built in the wizarding world and it’s just jaw-dropping. It’s amazing they built practically every set in Warner Bros Leavesden Studios.
Deleted Scenes – 14 Minutes
Just some scenes that didn’t make the final cut and when you’ll see them, you’ll understand why.
Does show something new about Jacob and you can hear the Ilvermorny school song.
Verdict
This is a MUST BUY for all Potterheads and just fans of this wizarding world. The film is great and the bonus features are just as brilliant and important as they do hint to the future films.
