If you’re a DC Comics fan or just a comic book fan, this news should get everyone excited as it was announced this week Warner Bros and DC Entertainment will be bringing a DC-branded digital service.

It was first revealed by Deadline that this service will be exclusively showing a brand new live action show from the brilliant mind of Greg Berlanti called Titans.

This will obviously be focusing on the popular team Teen Titans, but calling a show Teen Titans sounds sort of lame so they did the smart move and simply removing the teen. Joining Berlanti as executive producers will be Geoff Johns (President and Chief Creative Officer DC Entertainment), Akiva Goldsman and Sarah Schechter.

“Titians follows a group of young soon-to-be Super Heroes recruited from every corner of the DC Universe. In this action-packed series, Dick Grayson emerges from the shadows to become the leader of a fearless band of new heroes, including Starfire, Raven and many others.

“Titans is a dramatic, live-action adventure series that will explore and celebrate one of the most popular comic book teams ever.”

Berlanti and Schechter have been working together on all four CW/Sky One DC shows Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow (with help from Johns on Arrow and Flash). While Goldsman (Star Trek: Discovery, Underground) will be writing the script alongside Johns.

The fact this series will be headed by Berlanti is only a great thing, as everything he touches turns to gold from all the DCTV shows to the awesome Netflix show Riverdale. However, this does have a massive question mark over his director duties on the rumoured Booster Gold film.

It’s not only new content that will be on the digital service as we welcome back an old friend as season three of Young Justice will so be shown exclusively.

“In Young Justice: Outsiders, the teenage Super Heroes of the DC Universe come of age in an animated world of super-powers, Super-Villains and super secrets.

“In the highly anticipated new season, the team faces its greatest challenge yet as it takes on meta-human trafficking and the terrifying threat it creates for a society caught in the crossfire of a genetic arms race spanning the globe and the galaxy.”

The best news about Young Justice returning is Brandon Vietti and Greg Wiseman are back as the series producers as it wouldn’t have felt right if they didn’t due to the fans love for this superb show.

Also due to the higher age group who grew up watching the series and based on the subject matter that this third series will be a hard PG-13 or maybe an R? However, the previous two series had a great tone aimed at everyone, so if it’s not broke why fix it.

What’s Next?

So far, with the announcements of Titans and Young Justice: Outsiders have begun production, this is a good start for Warner Bros and DC Entertainment as both shows aim at the 13 – 30 market that’ll be interested in paying for this.

We’ll be hearing more news soon, with my guess being at San Diego Comic-Con. So hopefully we’ll know if this is will launch worldwide or in the US and Canada first before going worldwide.

The best way to show why we should pay a monthly fee is to follow the WWE Network model.

The WWE Network has one of the best catalogues I’ve seen, having every Pay-Per-View in WWE, WCW and ECW history plus all the new PPVs and exclusives. For £10 a month it’s a steal and perfect for every wrestling fan.

This is what this new digital service should do. Firstly, call it something easy like the DC Universe and market it like “Be a member and join the DC Universe….”

Meanwhile, as well as Titans and Young Justice, it should have all the content DC has ever done from every new and old animated series and films, old school Batman and Wonder Woman TV shows and all the DC movies up to Suicide Squad. The one thing I wouldn’t have at the moment is the current DCTV shows as they’re under contract with Netflix.

Furthermore, after any episode is aired on The CW have an exclusive Supergirl/Flash/Arrow/Legends (throw in Gotham, iZomble and the underrated Lucifer too) aftershow with behind the scenes and a member of cast/crew from the show joining every week to talk about the episode.

Also, have a first look and exclusive content from DC Films and similar to Young Justice; give old shows new series like Batman Beyond.

If they gave us all this content for £5-£10 per month or have an annual fee, sign me up!
