Fantastic Beasts Sequel Has Cast Young Albus Dumbledore

Fantastic Beasts 2 has found their Dumbledore and he’s a bit of a hunk.

Warner Bros released a press release and confirmed Variety’s story that two-time Oscar nominee Jude Law will be starring as Albus Dumbledore for the Fantastic Beasts sequel.

In the press release, it was revealed “Law will portray Dumbledore long before in the iconic wizard became the Headmaster at Hogwarts, as he has been known in the ‘Harry Potter’ books and movies.

“We meet him decades earlier, when Dumbledore is serving as the wizarding school’s Transfiguration professor. He is also a contemporary of Gellert Grindelwald, the charismatic dark wizard who believes wizards are superior to Muggles and No-Majs.”

WB’s President and Chief Content Officer, Toby Emmerich added a few words on the casting stating “As fans ourselves, we are thrilled to have Jude Law joining the ‘Fantastic Beasts’ cast, playing a character so universally adored. Jude has been a member of the Warner Bros. family for years and we’re excited to embark on this new adventure with him.”

It is great casting after you think about and if I’m being honest, he was never in my thoughts to be Dumbledore. It’s bad because Law is an incredibly talented actor and he goes in deep with the character and he’s going to do a fantastic job as this iconic character.

It’s going to be interesting to see what sort of Dumbledore he’ll be because he’s a very different man than the one we meet in the first Harry Potter film/book and as we get to know him in the Potter series, he has had a dark past.

He could still be every raw and looking to kill Grindelwald to avenge the murder of his sister and what is his relationship with his brother Aberforth as he blames Albus for their sister's death.

The fact we will be seeing Johnny Depp and Law acting across each other with their character’s early history and hopefully Law will balance Depp’s overacting. It’s just a shame we won’t be seeing Colin Farrell as Grindelwald instead of Depp because that would’ve been fantastic to see him and Law going at it.

JK Rowling has penned the sequel and filming for Fantastic Beasts 2 begins this summer with a slated release of November 16, 2018.
