The biggest well-known secret in comic book movie cast was officially confirmed, we have our first two cast members of the X-Men spinoff New Mutants.

The Hollywood Reporter reveals that Maisie Williams will be joining her Game of Thrones sister Sophie Turner in the Marvel/X-Men Universe alongside one of Hollywood’s talented and hottest young actresses working at the moment, Anya Taylor-Joy.

Taylor-Joy, the star of The Witch and Split, will be playing Magik. A Russian girl, and sister of Colossus, who has learned sorcery and also uses teleportation discs to travel.

Meanwhile, Williams will play Wolfsbane. A girl who’s “struggling to reconcile her religious beliefs with her power to turn into a wolf.”

Josh Boone will be directing the film from a script he co-wrote with Knate Lee. This angst-driven flick will focus on a group of new teen mutants including Native American Danielle Moonstar, an American with the codename Cannonball, Sunspot from Brazil and well as Magik and the Scottish Wolfsbane. Joining them on the ride is an alien simply known as Warlock.

The helmer has previously stated this film will be “Stephen King meets John Hughes-style horror movie.” Which sounds awesome and perfect for the teen/young adult demographic to deal with issues close to them.

THR has also revealed Fox will be working hard to find ethnically appropriate actors, which includes a wide search for a Native American to play Moonstar and a South American for the role of Sunspot.

Even though Boone has had his eye one Williams and Taylor-Joy for the past year (we’ve known for months), but he was only recently able to secure them after the movie was greenlit earlier in the year.

It’s great to see Taylor-Joy finally in a massive franchise, instead of being just an indie darling, but if I’m being selfish, I sort of wanted her to be in the DCU and could easily be a number of roles either heroes and villains.

The Split star went on to Instagram to share her excitement.

Finally, THR’s Borys Kit added on his Twitter that James McAvoy will not be cameoing as Professor X and the rumours of Nat Wolff as Cannonball won’t be happening either.

New Mutants has a US release date of April 13, 2018, and no news on a possible UK release. However, I won’t be surprised if we hear more news at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con.
