A Judge Dredd TV Series Is In Development

If you’re a fan of the unbelievably awesome and brilliant 2012 film Dredd, starring Karl Urban (seriously if you haven’t seen the film, watch it, you’ll love it) there’s some good news and bad news.

Good news is (thanks to Entertainment Weekly), we’re getting a TV show called Judge Dredd: Mega City One and it’s being developed by IM Global – the team who produced the 2012 film. The series will focus on an ensemble cast of Judges being judge, jury and executioner in the dystopian crime hellhole known as Mega City One.

The bad news is, there’s no mention of the main man himself, yet. However, this news will surely disappoint fans who were hoping for a Netflix series or movie sequel with Urban and some of the original cast returning.

IM Global will be making the series alongside Rebellion, who are behind the Sniper Elite video games and they own 2000AD, the comic series that Dredd stars in.

The company’s co-owner and Dredd executive producer, Chris Kingsley is full of upbeat enthusiasm about the series saying “Thanks to the legions of fans who have kept up pressure on social media, and a lot of background work and enthusiasm, we aim to make a big budget production that will satisfy both out vast comics audience and the even greater general screen-watching public.”

I just want to point no network has brought the rights to the show, but I can see a few of them being interested – Syfy and FX being my top two.

Even though I’m bummed the film sequel or Netflix series starring Urban as Dredd is seemingly official dead, the fact we’re getting a series in this world does excite me and with the fact making no one has said it’ll be live-action, I could see this being an adult animated show.

In the meantime, we do have a poster to keep us interested.
