As it’s July 4th, Hollywood has been shut down for the past couple of days to celebrate all things America.
However, this hasn’t stopped the rumour mill as Rise of the Planet of the Apes director Rupert Wyatt maybe/ maybe not helming Green Lantern Corps.
The DCEU project is slated for a Summer 2020 release with a script written by David Goyer (The Dark Knight Trilogy, Man of Steel, Batman v Superman) and Justin Rhodes. The film will focus on two Earth-based Lantern’s the iconic Hal Jordan and the highly popular John Stewart and has been described as “Lethal Weapon in Space”.
News about Green Lantern has been quite since the New Year, but The Hashtag Show are claiming Wyatt is attached to direct and that they’ve seen studio description what they’re looking for in Jordan and Stewart.

Hal Jordan: Caucasian, 39-50. A former military pilot, he is now a veteran of the Green Lantern Corps.
John Stewart: African-American male, 21-30. Prior to joining the Green Lantern Corps, he was a sniper in the military.
The odd thing is that the 44-year-old is currently in post-production with the upcoming film Captive State (due out next summer). He was the first director to walk away from the Gambit movie and focus on his original screenplays.
Even though, The Tracking Board’s Jeff Snider did post a possible rumoured suggestion tweet during the Lord and Miller, Han Solo craziness. The Wrap’s Umberto Gonzalez kept up to date with this story and it looks like it might not happen.
Or maybe, possibly, potentially... RUPERT WYATT? https://t.co/rQZ6A6vFeb— Jeff Sneider (@TheInSneider) 20 June 2017
GREEN LANTERN CORPS/RUPERT WYATT UPDATE 2 - Sorry folks, looks like it might not happen. What the hashtag show is saying isn't accurate. RT— Umberto Gonzalez (@elmayimbe) 3 July 2017
However, I think you should take both claims from Gonzalez and The Hashtag Show with a pinch of salt as we’ll probably hear official news at San Diego Comic-Con.
On the other hand, for a bit of fun, if Warner Bros are looking for someone between 21 and 30 then their top choice has to be 27-year-old Moonlight star, Trevante Rhodes.

He’s been on top of people’s fancasts since the Oscar-winning Moonlight was released because not only is he a decent actor, he also has the perfect look to be a superhero especially Stewart.
As for an older Jordan, Tom Cruise has to be at the top of the pile and even though he’s 55, he really doesn’t look it and you can play on the Top Gun thing. Plus the bigger age gap would really show he’s been a veteran GL.

Elsewhere, if Cruise is too old, you have 46-year-old Jon Hamm and he’s winning praise for his role in the successful Baby Driver, he could be a hot property. Hamm has been on plenty of DECU fancast from Shazam to Harvey Dent/Two-Face and now Hal. He has the look and personality to carry off the character and the 19 year age gap could work a little better.
Finally, if Wyatt isn’t directing Green Lantern Corps, I hope Shane Black still has a chance just because with the Lethal Weapon reference and the fact he does buddy-cop films brilliant. If you haven’t seen The Nice Guys, watch it! It’s criminally underrated and underseen.
