| MCQUARRIE ON THE FAR LEFT WITH CRUISE AND HENRY CAVILL |
Tom Cruise is one crazy bastard from climbing the world’s tallest building and just hanging off the side of a plane like it’s casual Monday. It has come to the point I strongly began to think Cruise was a real-life superhero or a cyborg.
Unfortunately, we finally learnt the 55-year-old is, in fact, a living human being after he broke his ankle earlier this week jumping between rooftops (as you do) while filming Mission: Impossible 6 in London.
Empire caught up with M: I6 director Christopher McQuarrie to talk about Cruise’s injury and the future of the film's production.
As for Ethan Hunt himself, McQuarrie reassured fans the actor is doing perfectly fine saying, “Tom is great. He’s in good spirits.”
Meanwhile, even though this is a bit of a speed bump, production for the sixth instalment of the franchise will continue as normal and McQuarrie insisted the film will is on track to making the Summer 2018 release date despite the hiatus on filming.
“The hiatus itself is unknown. We’re still figuring that out. Nothing that we’re looking at right now is going to affect the release date” said McQuarrie.
For plenty of people, this accident might cause the production to go into a bit of trouble missing its superstar lead, but the director has found a silver lining adding, “This, in fact, gives us an opportunity to go into editorial and look at what we’ve shot and reassess the movie.
“Which is a luxury you don’t normally have because you’re on a train that just doesn’t stop.”
Like another human, you’d be forgiven to think you think “you know what, I’m too old for this shit”, but not Cyborg Cruise, no, he’s not slowing down.
“Absolutely not” insisted McQuarrie. “He is in better shape and better form than I have seen him on any of the movies we’ve worked on in the past ten years.”
As for the shot itself, you bet your arse the 49-year-old helmer will be using it!
“I now have to move heaven and earth to make sure that the shot is in the movie. We went to all that effort to get it. It’s a pretty fantastic shot.”

Mission: Impossible 6 will hobble to UK cinemas July 27, 2018.
