Lucasfilm is still expanding its Star Wars universe with their anthologies and it looks like we now know the follow-up of Rogue One and Han Solo will focus on one of the most popular Jedi and Star Wars characters ever.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Billy Elliot director Stephen Daldry is in early talks to helm a project about Jedi master Obi-Wan Kenobi, who has been played by both Alec Guinness and Ewan McGregor.
THR sources state the talks are in their early stages and the film doesn’t have a script, however, if the Oscar-nominated Daldry does sign on he’d be overseeing development and writing alongside the Lucasfilm brass.
They went on to stress since there’s no script at the moment, McGregor isn’t attached. On the other hand, with this film probably taking place between Episode three and four, I can only see McGregor reprising the role to the fans joy.
It’s not just Obi-Wan, the hierarchy at Lucasfilm and Disney are looking at several projects that are outside the Skywalker family saga. With Ron Howard in the final stages of filming Han Solo, Lucasfilm are also looking at the possibility of having projects focusing on Yoda and Boba Fett, among other characters.
Honestly, I don’t want a Yoda film and even though they were planning a Boba Fett with Josh Trank directing, I don’t want a Fett movie either, but I wouldn’t say no to a bounty hunter movie.
However, I want to see the Star Wars universe expand behind the characters we know and grew up like Solo and Obi-Wan. I really want to see the Old Republic explored, after the saga, in a trilogy and we can see the beginnings of both Jedi and Sith.
