DC Exhibition: Dawn of Super Heroes - A Perfect Day Out That Made Me Smile All Day

From today DC Exhibition: Dawn of Super Heroes opens its doors to UK DC Comics and film fans at The O2 after a successful run in Paris, France and this unique exhibition is a complete dream and attending the press day yesterday was the happiest days of my life.

I was happier walking around this exhibition then I was getting my degree!

When you attend, you’ll get to see over 200 original comic pages, 300 preparatory sketches including the original design of The Joker’s card from 1940’s Batman with Robin the Wonder Boy comic and concept artwork from basically all the DC movies and panels from Batman: The Animated Series.

You’ll get to see 45 original costumes going back to Christopher Reeves’ Superman, Lynda Carter’s Wonder Woman then you have Tim Burton’s Batman film including Michelle Pfeiffer’s Catwoman costume. Plus, artwork from his failed Superman film – Superman Lives that was going to star Nicolas Cage as the Man of Steel.

Meanwhile, you have the Batman & Robin costumes and fast forward to a happier time to Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy, which has the Bat-signal, Heath Ledger’s Joker and Tom Hardy’s Bane costume.

You also have a crap tonne from Zack Snyder’s DCEU films Man of Steel, Batman v Superman and Justice League and other DCEU films Suicide Squad and Wonder Woman.

While the costume’s and seeing the Bat bike from The Dark Knight was pretty f**king rad, are the headline act. It’s the artwork and concept art especially from Snyder’s films are truly beautiful and in some cases makes me wish we saw it in the movies like longer haired, beard Russell Crowe from Man of Steel is sexy.

Then how awesome would’ve been to see this scene in Batman v Superman!

If anything seeing this artwork in person makes me want to buy the concept art books and there was one image of Knightmare Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman together by Jaime Jones.

I was incredibly lucky to speak to The Dark Knight Trilogy & Wonder Woman and more importantly Paddington 1&2 costume designer Lindy Henning.

DC Exhibition: Dawn of Super Heroes opens at the O2, London, 23 February and runs until 9th September 2018. For more information and tickets please visit www.DCExhibition.co.uk

I had to tell her I much I loved her work on the Paddington films and we did talk about DC revealing some interesting info about working on these films. She was collaborating with Michael Wilkinson (costume designer of Man of Steel, Batman v Superman and Justice League) when it comes to Wonder Woman’s costume and she felt the whole Amazon Justice League costume backlash was blown well out of proportion.

Additionally, when it came to working on Wonder Woman she was working on the costumes for roughly seven months before filming. If that is the case and films sequel is rumoured to start filming this summer, Henning must be deep into working on the costumes.

I would’ve shown you the video but iPad decided to be a bastard and crash under two minutes into our interview.

There was only one nitpicky issue I had with the exhibition and that’s the lighting is awful and when you want to take pictures on your phone, tablet or proper camera you’ll have to make sure the focus is right.

Besides that, it was a perfect couple of hours spent and I haven’t stopped smiling since even writing this piece makes me smile and if you’re a fan it’ll make you smile too.

Annoyingly depending on what tickets you get will determine what the booking fee will be.

Again I know it’s pricey but if you’re a fan of DC Comics and the films it’ll be a brilliant day out and you can get tickets at – www.DCExhibition.co.uk
