If Things Go To Plan Danny Boyle Could Still Direct Bond 25

It was revealed a couple of weeks back that Danny Boyle was Eon and MGM’s top choice to direct Daniel Craig’s last outing as James Bond in Bond 25.

However, it looked like this deal wasn’t going to happen after the Trainspotting director signed on to helm a Richard Curtis (Love Actually, Four Weddings and a Funeral) written project that could be starring Lily James.

It seems like the idea for Boyle directing Bond isn’t completely dead as he hopefully plans to jump straight into the world of 007 at the end of the year after finishing Curtis’ big-budget flick.

Boyle was talking to Metro US at the premiere of his new TV show Trust when he revealed, “We are currently working on a script right now. And it all depends on that really. I am currently working on a Richard Curtis script at the moment. We hope to be shooting that in 6 or 7 weeks. Then Bond would be right at the end of the year. But we are working on them both right now.”

Boyle stated he does have an idea for a James Bond film with his Trainspotting screenwriter, John Hodge who is currently writing it.

“We’ve got an idea, John Hodge, the screenwriter, and I have got this idea, and John is writing it at the moment. And it all depends on how it turns out. It would be foolish of me to give any of it away” he added.

The 61-year-old director went on to talk to AP at the premiere and teased this idea with a brilliant laugh.

Furthermore, he was asked about if his Bond Girl will reflect the #MeToo era we now live in, “You write in real time” said Boyle. “You acknowledge the legacy of the world [of Bond] and you write in the world – but you also write in the modern world as well.”

It must be stressed that just because they’re writing a script doesn’t mean Boyle WILL be directing Bond 25 as nether Eon (the company run by Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson) and/or MGM have confirmed the appointment.

They might not either as if they might not want to wait until the end of the year to start pre-production as they currently got the film slated to release on November 8, 2019, in the US, UK must likely October time, and that’s not enough time.

If they do wait for Boyle then fully expect the release of Craig’s final 007 adventure to be pushed back to 2020.

Personally, I can’t see Eon/MGM waiting and they go with a director available now so they can hit the 2019 release date and start planning a 007 universe in 2020 at their new studio home.
