How To Make A Booster Gold Film

IMAGE VIA DC COMICS

After the original announcement back in 2016 that Warner Bros and DC Films were developing a Booster Gold movie, but we never heard any more until last night (Friday 9th March).

The film’s director Greg Berlanti revealed to The Wrap the film is “still in development with DC.”

The DCTV megamind went on to add, “They’re [WB/DC] trying to figure it out both the distance that we still have to travel and how we want to execute it.”

Those final two words from Berlanti would be, to me, the easiest part of a Booster Gold movie because I know how to execute it and it’s pretty simple.

The first thing I’d do is get Warner Bros exec and DC Films president Walter Hamada and his VP of production, Chantal Nong into a room and watch Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping!

Not only was this a criminally underrated comedy when it was released back in 2016, it is also the perfect blueprint to who to make a Booster Gold film as it should be a mockumentary into a time-travelling superhero becoming a celebrity and this would be a plot of his own reality series.

For this I’d remove Berlanti from director into a producer/executive producer role and bring in The Lonely Island boys to handle the project – Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone rewrite the film with Schaffer and Taccone helming.

Furthermore, Samberg has to be cast as Michael Jon Carter because both Popstar and Brooklyn Nine-Nine proves how great of a comic actor he is and Connor4real is basically a cocky star quarterback.

Additionally, once Carter comes into the 21st Century we see him perform rescues on the likes of Iris West in Central City, Lois Lane in Metropolis and Vicky Vale in Gotham to get his name in the press before getting advertising jobs to becoming a reality TV star.

Then could you imagine the humour when he finally meets the Justice League with the cameras following him like Ben Affleck’s Batman and obviously flirts with Wonder Woman and then get his arse handed to him.

Coming from the future he could drop DC Easter Eggs like saying “we have a different Batman in the future” hinting to Terry McGinnis, being in ore of Superman and thanking him for saving the world from Apokolips and they have their own superhero team as a hint towards Legion of Superheroes.

We go on to learn about the timestream and even though he’s a wanted man, he must protect it.  With Black Beetle as the villain and Agent Broderick, the federal agent from 2462, investigating the theft of the time sphere that Carter stole.

Obviously, if you have Booster Gold then Blue Beetle can’t be far and I’d have them meeting as John Krasinski’s Ted Kord helps Carter get back home.

The past credit scene could be both Blue and Gold in 27th Century as private investigators or something. While the end credit scene could be a Hispanic teenager picking up the Blue Beetle Scarab (left behind by Black Beetle).
