After becoming a summer smash hit last year, the sequel to Wonder Woman is starting to build momentum with Warner Bros seemingly finding Diana Prince’s next big-screen villain.
According to Variety, Kristen Wiig is the studios top choice to play the villainous Cheetah opposite Gal Gadot. The US website is reporting Wiig is high on Patty Jenkins’ list for the role and the filmmaker let the actress know of her interest before going out on location scouting for the project.
Furthermore, Wiig and top execs have had meetings with Variety suggesting things are moving “in the right direction” however it’s unknown if the Bridesmaids star is interested in the role, which would be her first in the comic book genre.
Cheetah has had many characters take over the mantle with the most popular being Dr. Barbara Ann Minerva, who’s a British anthropologist and gains the power of the cheetah after an expedition to an African jungle.

Elsewhere, The Hollywood Reporter is reporting the film will indeed take place in the 1980s during the Cold War.
It was a surprise casting news considering the rumour before this news was that Emma Stone was offered and rejected the role, so something of similar grade would’ve been rumoured. It’s not that Wiig isn’t a good actress again it’s just a surprise.
At this point as fans of superhero films, we shouldn’t be surprised with casting and it should be pointed out that the most surprising of the casting turns to become fan favourites/cult status.
Heath Ledger as the Joker become the poster boy for all comic book villains, Michael Keaton’s Batman helped bring the superhero genre to where we are now and then you have Ben Affleck as Batman, who is considered by many as the best ever Dark Knight.
Then there’s that washed-up has-been actor named Robert Downey Jr, whatever happened to him? Then finally Wonder Woman herself Gadot who seen as “just a model who couldn’t act.”
All I’m saying Jenkins deserves our trust after what she did with the original film.
Jenkins is returning to direct, produce and write the film after getting a brand new eight-figure contract with the aim of hitting cinemas on November 1, 2019.
