WHAT THE F**K IS HAPPENING AT FOX WITH THEIR X-MEN/MARVEL FRANCHISE!

WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK IS HAPPENING WITH THE X-MEN/MARVEL UNIVERSE AT FOX??

Following the success of Deadpool and Logan, it looked like the studio was going to make different genres within the superhero realm. In 2018, following the Comedy and Western, 20th Century Fox was going to bring a horror film in The New Mutants & Sci-Fi with X-Men: Dark Phoenix.

Then it looked like the studio were still going to make Marvel movies up to the point of 2020/2021 when their deal to become Disney owned would look to be officially complete.

However, now there are issues with both New Mutants and Dark Phoenix getting pushed back to new releases dates!

After news New Mutants was getting pushed back to February 2019 for reshoots was to punch up the horror after the success of last year’s IT with the possibility of another character joining the Josh Boone directed flick.

This news earlier in the year already pissed me off considering New Mutants was in my top 10 films to see this year as well as being in my top five comic book films to see! Additionally, we already saw a creepy trailer and social media campaign teasing a horror/thriller tone.

Now Collider reported why this film is being moved for the SECOND time from February 14, 2019, to now August 2, 2019.

While the studio’s pushing for a scarier movie and the addition of a new character is still true, the new news is Fox wants at least 50% of the film reshoot and the adding of not just one, but now two new characters in significant roles throughout the movie.

Collider went on to add Boone was happy with the film he made and test screenings were good, but now with the studio pushing for the changes there have been creative differences between the two parties and it’ll be interesting if he even stays onboard.

This move is because Fox has been given a good name and goodwill for how they’re handling their Marvel properties recently with Logan getting a Best Adapted Screenplay nomination at this year’s Oscars. Pushing the boundaries of these I.P’s look to be more important and making money than the director's vision, which is fair enough as Hollywood is a business but now they’ll be pressure to make money.

The news regarding Dark Phoenix is a bit different as it all aims to Fox seeing at what happened at Warner Bros with Justice League and not wanting to do the same mistake and give the director Simon Kinberg enough time to get the film right.

The US website is stating the film had its test screening to figure out what works and what doesn’t and like EVERY MAJOR STUDIO BLOCKBUSTER, it went back to for reshoots. The issue is how and when to get this A-list cast together with the likelihood begin either August or September. The Hollywood Reporter added these reshoots will be used to rework the third act.

With the film originally planned to hit cinemas on November 2018, there would be no way to get the new scenes done and the effects fully completed with the score within two to three months, again look at Justice League.

This is a smart move by Fox and their new release date of February 14, 2019, will mean all of the post-production will be completed and they’ll likely make more money in February, compared to November, following the success of Deadpool and Black Panther on this month.
