Before I get into my review of Rampage I’d like to say a big F**K YOU to Southern Rail (to any Americans reading, Southern Rail are a s*it joke of a train network and its job is to feed on the misery of its users). I’m saying this because I got 10 minutes late to my screening and nearly had a panic attack.
Anyway, let’s focus on the utter joy that was Rampage and Warner Bros hitting three from three when it comes to 2018 video game adaptations with George and his human help joining Tomb Raider and Ready Player One.

Rampage is a story about George, an incredibly rare albino silverback gorilla, and after getting infected by a genetic experiment this gentle ape mutates into a raging creature of enormous size.
To make things worst there are similar altered creatures and it’s down to George’s incredibly handsome friend primatologist David Okoye (up-a-comer Johnson) and dodgy geneticist Kate Caldwell (Harris) to find the antidote and save America, if not the world, and their friendship.

This is a leave your brain at home, childish, funny, stupidly superb action flick. I’m sure Johnson and co will BS their way through saying there’s a deeper meaning of friendship, but HOLY S*IT THAT WOLF’S GOT WINGS!
I’m not sure you can praise Johnson anymore because he was great at Okoye and even though it was all done with tongue-in-cheek, you bought into his and George’s friendship and you’ll want a friend like George by the end of the film.

Morgan was the MVP of the film and had some of the best and funniest lines in the whole film including one that is now my favourite lines ever said in any film replacing “some days you just can’t get rid of a bomb.”
Even Harris got in the fun seriously explaining what’s happening to the ape to the laughter of critics.

Coming from working together on the equally pleasurable San Andreas, director Peyton seems to gel brilliantly with the former WWE star to bring out the action star in more than any Fast film and they should work together when it comes to Black Adam.
Away from the fun and games, VFX team deserve all the praise and respect when it comes to next year’s award season because it was some of the most beautiful and realist CG I’ve ever seen to even rival the recent Apes trilogy.

Verdict
Go and have a great time watching Johnson saving the day, kept the ridiculousness’ of it all and hope you a befriend with another CGI ape.
